  1. Hi, thanks for the reply, the strange thing is that the I/D is the same as the thread on clutch centre nut. I have bought a new 3mm thk washer that goes behind the clutch, there is also one inside the basket isn't there? it would be great if you could send me a drawing that you are confident is correct. Have you stripped your clutch down before? any does and don'ts please?

    Many thanks

  2. Has anyone got any good info in the nine spring 242 clutch, the drawing is a little confusing, the 3mm spacer that sits in the castellated drive that goes into the back of the clutch looks to have another shim on the top of that, mine did not have one when I stripped it

  3. Hello again, I have sorted out the above gearbox issue, by moving shims and turning the first gear on the drive shaft around (the right way?) so that it doesn't engage in neutral. Now having a no spark situation to deal with. The stator, magneto and capacitor were off the bike when it arrived. I've set it up right from what I can tell. Is there a simple way to determine the optimum position of the stator? I've attached it using the old screw marks on the slotted holes as a guide.

Have been reading on another forum that the motoplat system has a weak spark as there is no coil to boost it. So it relies on the speed of the magneto to  create sufficient voltage in the stator for discharge from the capacitor. Next step will be to thoroughly check every inch of wiring for breaks. Has any one tried adding a coil to the set up, or once they are running is it not a problem?

Hi, you sound as if you have gone into the bike in some depth! I have just started mine, I removed the primary case to find a washer in the bottom !!!! no damage, but at the same time, cannot find a home for it? the clutch has been off at some point as the tab washer has been butchered and the centre nut was loose. the problem I have is that there is only one shim under the clutch basket but the drawing shows 2, I have the 3mm one that sits inside the castle drive to the basket, any words of wisdom please

  4. I am rebuilding a Montesa 242 and although the bike is low hours and relatively untouched, when I washed the clutch case and gearbox out with petrol, what looks like thrust washer dropped out of the primary case, evidence as you can see, a ham head took the clutch apart, the nut was also loose, has anyone any advice on dismantling these clutches please?

    Many thanks
