I take it that its the "in line" version. If cooling circuit overheats (could be a number of reasons), the first thing to do is check the fan cuts in by shorting out the two wires on the 'stat.. Fan operation can be checked with a 12 v battery. Fan is also controlled via a regulator ( the small black box). If this isn't earthed correctly, regulator cooks itself & fan wont run. Replace the thermostat rubber sealing ring & retaining clip as it will very llkely be u/s. They split / distort quite easily. Only costs a couple of quid to replace.
Also worth checking water pump. Water pump shaft is made of low grade steel & wears at the lipseal contact point, resulting in water ingress & milky gearbox oil.. This is usually the first indication of water pump defect. Water pump overhaul kit easy to do, but not that cheap.
Thanks it could possibly be the regulator as fan does work when connected to a battery but not when bike is running and not when thermostat wires connected, also the thermostat rubber and clip are probably worn and need replacing too
On my GG 270 the bike will run for 10 mins then the thermostat pops out! Thinking the water pump may have packed up and that is pressurising when hot? Any other ideas? Thanks
You might as well get a trailer, at least you’ll be using the tow ball for the purpose it was intended! As other have suggested you might be minted you could buy a three bike trailer and either offer to give others a lift with their bikes so they can then return their supercars back to original. I ask you where’s the street cred driving a Lambo or McLaren fitted with a tow bar, what ever next holidays in Lowestoft or some exotic East Coast Resort. I can hear the rattle of the doughnut sellers cart even now, such luxury!??????
I am having the same problem with my McLaren MP4-12c ....you would think when you pay the kind of money we have for our cars that a Dave Cooper rack would be fitted as standard.
Haha thanks, I still need to transport my bike now Iv sold my VW LWB!
I guess there is a device that clamps to the ball and stem for the bike rack to be fitted to?
I have changed the spark plug as it wasn’t quite the correct one fitted!
I had it running up to temp today and it was running but hunting a bit so after some slight tuning on the mixture Iv had it running really well at normal running temperature, thanks for all the advice ??
Hi bike kicks up fine and runs sweet off the choke then as soon as it starts to get up to temp about the point I get on it to ride it just bogs down when I blip the throttle or cuts out!
Is there anywhere I can find the factory carb mixture and tick over screw settings or what do people recommend?
carb has been cleaned, tank cleaned, new fuel tap and filter, balancing pipe ok no other obvious air leaks
Thermostat keeps popping out
