  1. Yikes! That sounds very promising. Cases do look a bit dodgy. Not whipped off the clutch yet. I guess I now know what to expect... So that would be oil from the gearbox/clutch mixing with the coolant somehow. I'll rip it open and have a look. Screwd.
  2. I just resigned myself to stripping down my newly acquired Beta Gara and the first thing I found was this: It's oily and sticky, bit like a soft mayo. I assume it's an orimulsion. I fear the worst but the exhaust port is clear so I'm hoping someones accidentally poured two stroke oil into the water header tank. I initially assumed the second filler next to the petrol was for 2T oil. Maybe someone else was daft enough to try it... Failing that, I guess it could be a gasket gone somewhere but I'd expect to see a right mess in the exhaust or at least on the piston which is in fact nice and clean. Not stripped the motor yet, ran out of time, too much to do this evening. So can anyone tell me what to expect? Screwd.
  3. Just had another look and it says 269 on the cylinder so I guess that makes this a Gara 270! On the other hand it also has odd bolts holding the front disk in place. Well, nearly holding the front disk... Hey ho. I'll be having a much better look at it tomorrow. Get it up and running again and maybe even have a blat somewhere on Sunday. Wish me luck and maybe see some of you guys later. Cheers Screwd.
  4. Thanks Chris, I have the parts list, what I need is a service manual... Screwd.

    Manuals...

Where can I find a service manual for the 1993 Beta Gara? Anyone got one they could lend me? Meantime, is the fan supposed to run all the time or is it on a thermostat? Screwd.
  6. Hmm. Impressive Checked the frame number against the list and it comes back as a 1993 Zero (which I assume is the same thing?) Here's a better pic or two. It fits! Thanks for the info. Can't wait to fix it up a bit and join a club. W. London based. Screwd.
  7. Darn it. I knew there was something odd with it. No, there's no doubt, doing exactly that, there's one neutral at the top and one at the bottom. Wonder if it's possible to reassemble the box incorrectly? There are six gears, I've ridden it, it's just that there are also two (distinct) neutrals. Screwd.

    Gearbox

Hi I just bought this: Beta 250 Zero '91 (I think) And the first thing I noticed on a very brief test ride is that there appear to be two neutrals. All the way up/down one AND all the way down/up one. Can this be right? Screwd.
  9. Believe it or not, I brought it home in the back of the estate. Lying down, front wheel off. Anyway, glad to make your acquaintance, hope I'll be seeing more of you now I have my first ever trials bike. Pretty sure its a '91 Beta 250 Zero. It's in a bit of a state but it runs... Screwdriver.
