  1. Maybe a silly question but how on earth do you fit the 5.5mm ball bearing in the kickstart when the thread for the spring and grub screw is m5. The bearing doesn’t slide down the threaded hole and the lever won’t fit the hinge if the bearing is installed inside first. My only thought is that it’s not supposed to be 5.5mm? This is for a 2003 Sherco 250. Cheers
  2. Not too much but my sons Gas Gas sounds absolutely silent in comparison.
  3. Interesting, I hadn't heard of that before but having googled a few videos I wouldn't say it sounds like that, it's much louder pops, more like regular ignitions in the exhaust but not as often as every second stroke. It's a 2005 bike so the silencer isn't repack-able unless I cut it open and find someone to weld it back up again. I'll have a look for any air leaks too just in case but it's got new gasket and o'rings for the exhaust.
  4. Just a quick question looking for a few pointers. Been out on the bike a couple of times since I got it up and running. Starts fine, couple of kicks when cold, sometimes need to hold throttle open when hot but no biggie. Noticed that when accelerating, or part throttle under load, there’s a lot of popping in the exhaust. I’ve had a play with the carb screws to try and alter the mixture but no real change. Everything has been set to standard apart from the timing slightly retarded. Any pointers on what might be causing the popping? Cheers
  5. I give up. I've replaced master cylinder, rebuilt the calipers, pushed fluid through from both ends, vacuum bled, lifted the back of the bike 3 ft in the air, left a tube with fluid on the nipple overnight. Still no pressure on the pedal. I've bled a lot of brakes over the years but this is ridiculous.
  6. It lives. Seals looked fairly fresh and no play so I just left them. Water pump looked fairly fresh too. I retarded the timing a little and reset everything else back to standard settings. Carb needle valve was stuck closed and wouldn’t free up so I’ll get a replacement when shops open again. Mostly put back together to try and it started on second kick. I’ll refresh some of the wiring and connectors and tidy that up a bit and hopefully it’s good to go.
  7. Hello. I was replacing the rear master cylinder piston on a 125 txt I picked up for my son and it wouldn't bleed at all afterwards. After checking some of the threads here I pulled it back out and put a syringe on it to force some fluid through but it seemed to be blocked. After taking the piston back out it appears to be a different length to the original (longer) and the seal blocks the port from the reservoir once the circlip is installed. Is it me being daft or is the piston wrong? It came in the proper kit for this master cylinder.
  8. Been stripping it down and found, I think, the root of the problem for why it wouldn't start. The floats for the carb were installed upside down last time it was stripped and cleaned so hopefully easy fix. The plug is new, probably replaced while trying to figure out why it wouldn't start. The kickstart spring is broken but rest of it looks ok. While I've got it stripped and doing a bit of a tidy up I was going to do top end and at least as far as the seals in bottom end. I assume you need to split the case to do the shaft bearings but the seals can be done without splitting?
  9. Cheers. I’ve seen a bunch of threads on some of the things you’ve mentioned so I’ll have a look. Pretty sure I can get the non-runner back up again.
  10. Hello, new here. Just picked up a couple of Sherco 290’s and a Gas Gas 125 to do some riding with my son. The 290’s are an 03 and 04 (ones a non-runner so came as a buy 1 get 1 free kind of 😂) so I’m going to go over them and tidy them up and check everything’s all good. Any jobs/maintenance that are recommended while I’m in there doing other stuff? No doubt I’ll be posting for advice, and already had a look through the archives, so thanks in advance 👍
