  1. Hi guys m I’m hoping to get some opinions here for a problem I have with the bike.

txt 280 2021, not done a lot of hours.

I’ve got a real splutter/misfire coming off closed throttle to 1/4 throttle .

I’ve stripped and rebuilt the carb, new o ring seals everything , but the problem is still there .

so it’s pointing at the electrical side now I’m guessing . My cdi pins are pretty furred up, so I’ve cleaned them , but still no joy.

can anyone else recommend where I look ? Is there a way to test if the cdi unit itself is the problem? I’m checking all my earths and connections now .

    any advice appreciated .

  2. Cheers Faussy, appreciate your input.

i've been chatting to a few local riders recently, and its a mixed opinion on the fly wheel weight. some riders love them , others don't ! i guess its a case of trying and finding out what works for me and my style of riding.

the 280 does seem like a odd one in the middle. i basically got it as it was in A1 condition and only done 3 tanks of fuel from new. i'll persevere as the bike is really fun to ride.

  3. personally, i would put a fresh plug in (i've been advised to run an iridium plug in my 280) , put fresh fuel in and give it go. i think the recommended mix ratio is way too rich, i was getting loads of oily goop out of the exhaust and difficult starting on the recommended ratio.

with 100:1 ( 50ml per 5L )  mine starts fairly easy and runs good.

they say there is a knack to the gas gas stating, personally i just ease the kick start over until its engaged at the top of the stroke, then give it a solid quick full stomp .

just did a 6 hr long lap trial on the weekend , and it started first kick most of the time. my only issue is trying to get used to the sharp power delivery in the slop we ride here in Wales.

good luck, i hear the '23 models are lovely to ride.

  4. just after some advice from fellow Gas Gas owners.

i've picked up a 2021 txt 280. really enjoying the bike, but the power does feel pretty sharp which is taking some getting used to. (previous bike was a Jotagas 300 which was like a tractor)

i've ridden it totally standard for the last couple of months, but in a sloppy wet trial on the weekend , i felt like i was struggling for grip in places where i usually wouldn't have with the jotagas.

still getting used to the bike/tires etc, so not bashing the bike, i love it. just want some opinions on if fitting a fly wheel weight would calm it down a bit on the power delivery ?

also, if fitting a weight , will the gear lever still fit if the casing is spaced out ?

cheers for reading and appreciate the advice.
