  1. A follow up on my hard to start Gasgas.

I purchased a s3 head and low compression insert for my 2023 gasgas 300 GP. It made it a little easier to kick. I would buy it again, but it wasn’t a huge game changer. I think the bike broke in a little also. Before the head It would always start 2 or 3 kicks when cold with the choke on. But the compression when the bike was warm was really tough on me. Sometimes I couldn’t get a full kick. I would look for a tree to lean on to get a solid kick.  Truly wore me out. I’m an intermediate rider, I couldn’t feel any power differences. Still plenty of power.

But I can’t stress enough what a game changer the following starting procedure is

    when warm,

    put the bike in gear.

    Roll it back

    Pull in the clutch

    Kick

The bike will kick easier, No compression kick back

The bike will start first kick 9 out of 10 times. Never more than 2 kicks using this procedure. And if it doesn’t start first kick the compression doesn’t wear you out, I’m 66 years old and 150 pounds. If I was bigger and stronger maybe the original compression wouldn’t have been a issue. I now have zero thoughts of converting to a 250. I’ve kicked a 2023 Gasgas 250 GP and those bikes are much easier to kick.

I’ve ordered a fly wheel weight, and a slower throttle. I’ll follow up with these parts.

  2. I have a similar starting issue. I own a 2023 Gasgas 300 GP. I purchased it in December of 2023. On sale in USA for a great price.  I’m 150 pounds 5 foot 9 and 66 years old. My bike starts but takes a lot of energy. Leaning against a tree helps big time. I run about 100 octane gas. A trick I just learned was to put in first gear, rock it backwards till it stops then pull the clutch in and kick. seems to start first kick every time without leaning on something..I just ordered s3 head with the low compression insert. Hopefully that will make the kick easier. I will post how it works. I was also considering putting a 250 piston and cylinder on it. I recently started 2 different 2023 gasgas 250 GPs and they were easy to start. It’s the compression that makes it hard.

  3. Thanks all. The bike starts, just take a lot of energy. I did learn a good trick to start it. Put it first gear, roll it back then pull in the clutch and kick. Seems easier to kick and probably starts 9 out of 10 times on first kick. Before this I would look for a tree to lean on so I could give it a solid kick. Now I start it like a normal rider. Probably going to a lower compression head. But not afraid to explore all options.

  4. I purchased a 2023 300 Gas Gas txt Gp in the USA. Is it possible to covert it to a 250 by putting on a 250 cylinder, head and piston on it. My issue with the bike is it has to much compression for me to start it. I can start it but during the course of a trials event it it wears me out. I’m a 66 year old intermediate rider that weighs 150. Im not concerned about power, I just want to make it easier to kick. I would b open to any other suggestions like a low compression head etc….
