  1. Has anyone fitted on of these to a TXT? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trail-Tech-Endurance-II-2-Computer-Kit-Gas-Gas-MC-XC-EC-ECE-TXT-125-300-515-/230878538070#vi-content I just picked up a new 2013 bike and thought it might be useful. Not sure how easy they are to fit electrics wise?
  2. I was having this conversation with fellow trialers last weekend. They recommended I do not wait for the Oset 20 and buy him 'a real bike' so he can 'learn to use the clutch' properly early on. I think it is just round the corner for kids to never use a clutch again. That said, my boy rides a KTM 65SX with clutch and 6 gears as his other bike. Little MX/Enduro bikes still have a way to go but I really hope it happens sooner rather than later so we can get some tracks and riding areas back!
  3. Info just released: http://www.osetbikes...t-electric-bike Spoke with Oset this AM. There might be a factory battery upgrade in the future but no dates for now. As Dave's pointed out, the bikes should be in the country end of August, at dealers in Sept. It looks a fantastic piece of kit, new controller looks great and very tuneable.
  4. Great advice. Very important to follow. Do not leave your lipo's connected to anything when not in use. I only ever charge my lipo's where I can see them.
  5. Thanks Dave. Any news on specs? Specifically around batteries?
  6. Is it just me or is this getting a little silly. It's August and still nothing.

    Ossa Tr280I Oils

What 2T and gear oils are you chaps using in your 280i's?
  8. I have a deposit down on a 20 so can't wait. Further unconfirmed rumours are: UK launch June and there will be factory 'upgrades' available for those wanting better runtime/performance.
  9. The battery monitors I use have a few different indicators to show where you are at in terms of voltage but to be honest I am just relying on the alarms. Here is the user manual that come with them.
  10. NineFives is right, it really is worth changing the connectors to something that prevents shorting them out or accidentally connecting them together. Throw kids into the mix with anything and sooner or later you will have a problem. I am lucky in that my kids have learnt to stay well away from lipo batteries and their connectors and I have developed a very consistent way of working with lipo's from using them in our RC cars so this really is the first time in my life that I have just left the standard connectors on. I've never been a fan of bullet connectors. It's been playing on my mind and I've been looking around for other suitable connectors that will prevent shorting them out. I also want a more secure and reliable way to connect my low voltage alarms. Th project is far from done, watch this space.
  11. It's a bit fiddly but at least we now have low voltage alarms fitted. Loud enough for him to hear so he knows to stop the bike and switch it off.
  12. Lipo batteries do/should not get hot. At extreme performance draw (performance flying or RC car racing) I have felt packs increase in temp when pushed to their limits but only ever warm to the touch, never fire warm, never ever the sort of heat you would feel a NiCd or NiMH get to during charging. Lipo batteries should never exceed 140F/60C. A lot of manufacturers now encase their lipo packs in hard cases to protect them against knocks and so one wrapped with bubble wrap or tape isn't a problem.
  13. If anyone has done an air shock upgrade on a 16 Oset, could you please post details/pics of the shock and modification needed? Trying to shave a bit more weight off the bike for my daughter. Also, if anyone knows how to soften up the fork that would be useful too. Much obliged
  14. I get it but I still think it's utterly ridiculous for a 12-16inch wheeled electric bike not to be allowed to be ridden in public areas where kids are legally able to ride their pushbikes for example. They pose no greater risk and don't go any faster.
  15. gwhy - I would be interested for sure. I think something small that sits either in the stem or on the front most part of the plastic (where a fuel tank normally is if that makes sense) would be great. Dammad - I have also ordered a bunch of individual 3s HK low voltage alarms. My boy and his friend often go off by themselves and so the alarms will work very well letting him know when it's time to stop or return. Also, sometimes there is a lot going on and you just don't think to check. Alarms can only help in my case! In June they will be releasing the 20inch version. Can't wait to see what they spec that bike at and look forward to some more tinkering.
  16. Hey NineFives, yes, I am investigating low voltage cut offs right now because the packs are expensive and I don't want to kill them. My chargers charge through the balance leads and so at low voltage just go into restore mode which has brought other lipo's back from the dead before. I've got some Magura hydraulic brakes which is going on the bike this week. Still need to find a suitable shock. A Fox airshock seems ideal.
  17. Doesn't get much clearer than that. Thanks.
  18. I was under the impression that they were a bit of a grey area because they don't fall under any particular category and being small and quiet you would think they would not present much or a problem (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_180320). Where I live we have a green which is used for all sorts of sports by mostly young kids and families. Everyone is very friendly, I am sure we won't have a problem but it would be better to know if we fall within the law I case of a altercation.
  19. Quick question, anyone know what the legality around riding these small Oset's are in parks/commons/pavements around the UK? Don't want to be doing anything we shouldn't be doing so thought I'd check first.
  20. We rode yesterday with the new lipo batteries in the Oset 36 for the very first time. It was very cold outside with tons of snow everywhere. He rode for exactly 90mins on full power and I thought I would switch to the stock battery for no other reason than to be safe with the lipo's. Got home, put them on the charger and they still had 54% left in them! I recon in grippy conditions he should get a minimum of 2.5hrs runtime out of the packs.
  21. I am analy retentive about my packs and so I have plastic caps for my connectors. I stuck with the 5.5mm gold connectors because I could't be bothered resoldering tons of connectors. From working with lipo batteries for many years I know that a quick touch of the poles does not immediately destroy and render the packs useless. Sure, it's something you completely want to avoid for many reasons (not least of which is fire!) but I have had it happen on the odd occasion with my RC race packs over the years (before I started using Dean's connectors) and never noticed a loss in performance or pack life just yet. No need to throw $350 worth of batteries in the bin when you accidentally touch the poles for a micro second. Or if you feel compelled to, send them to me instead.
  22. Working very well indeed. Not weighed the packs yet but they are significantly lighter than the stock batteries. Hope to get the first run on them this weekend. Packs have been put together in 3's, hard plastic covering, taped, bubble wrapped, taped, taped again.
