  1. Hi, whilst not being a cub specialist, there are a couple of things that can be done to the frame to improve it. Firstly, the headstock is not noted for its strength, so a brace should be fitted where the tank mounts bolt on. this can be home fabricated if you have the necessary equipment and material. This may mean that a different tank will have to be fitted,it needs changing from the original anyway really. The footrest mountings need changing, to enable the new footrest position to be achieved,ie further back and a bit higher. The rear fork/swing arm is not really wide enough for a 400x18 tyre to fit without fouling fork and probably the chain too, so an alternative needs to be fitted. These can probably be picked up from a cub specialist, although I believe that a C15 one can be made to fit. The original front fork is a bit wafty, so that can be improved upon a great deal, check out the dismantlers, give Terry Weedy a try too. I used modified Triumph Adventurer forks on my B40, they needed a bit of work, but work beautifully if done right, or of course, if you can afford them, Cerianis. Sammy miller does nearly all the bits you will need, but I found it very expensive when I could have done the work myself. For a second mortgage, you could buy one of his ready to go frames with all mods done.
  2. Hi, Don Smith and a few others were playing around with the Villiers carb to good effect. It seemed to work well, the only downside is the lack of an idle screw, in its original application the idle speed was set by adjusting the throttle cable. This can be overcome with a little engineering, and as far as Iknow Don never had a problem with entries, due to the carb being British. You will have to make an adaptor because the carb is a stub fitting. If anyone is interested to try it, let me know and we can see about making the adaptor. Dave
  3. Hi, thanks for showing interest and "ferreting" on the net, I still haven't competed on it yet, but on running it quite hard the other day it nipped up and rattled quite badly. It seems to run fairly hot, but shows no sign of weakness through air leaks, so I'm a bit baffled still. As I don't yet know when I shall be riding competitively I still have time to sort it out. I shall speak to Neville at Surrey Cycles and try new settings as advised by him. Once again, thanks for the interest, Dave
  4. Hi folks, another newbie, sort of, after several years with a BSA B40 Otter I gave up riding for a couple of years. I recently returned to the sport and bought a Greeves TES250, a lovely bike and the 3rd scottish I have owned. I have a small problem with jetting on the 626 Amal fitted, to get it to run long enough to warm up and keep running at idle involves holding the tickler down almost constantly. Anyone help me with main jet size, pilot jet size and needle jet/needle settings? As a matter of interest, are there ANY trials being run in S E England, it seems very quiet on the Pre-65 front in the eastern centre. T A F N, Dave (90vanman)
