I know 5th gear isn't used much but usually when one gear goes the rest soon follow.

cheers please give me a ring.

  2. when i bought the bike i wasn't able to try the bike out because the seller was staying on a street and as i am only 14 couldn't ride it on the road to test the bike. when i first got the bike home the first 4 gears were smooth to change before moving it into fifth and getting netural. i havent changed the oil yet as it was a local sale and have seen the bike in the past up in the trails club but will do as soon as possible. still feeling stupid for not counting the gears in the sellers garage :rotfl:

    thanks for the reply Doogzie

  4. Hi everyone I haven't looked in for ages in fact since May last year.

I have been getting more and more frustrated with my bike. It sits for ages starts no problem but then once I am up on the hill it won't start and I spend all day pushing it home.

I have stripped the carb and emptied the tank changed the filters and the plug still it won't keep running reliabily and is hopless at starting again. I FIND IT SO UNRELIABLE THAT i TEND NOT TO To (sorry cap locks) take it out anymore cos it will just break down.

Does this 1996 model have a condenser or are they electronic ignition help please before I give up for good.

    Cheers Doogzie.

  5. Doogzie,

Can you describe what is the bike is actually doing after you start it up and what, besides the "melting exhaust" are the symptoms that lead you to believe it's running too hot?

    Jon

Hi thanks for the replies so far

I should have been clearer when I asked about the oil I was meaning the gear oil as mine has now gone below the sight glass.

My dad changed the plug it was really dirty. Sammy Millers mate came up he is a veterain and said he thought the bike was running too hot like almost melting the rear mud guard.

He isn't into modern bikes but was wondering if maybe the coolant wasn't circulating around the engine.

Does the bike have a thermostat?

I am now worried about starting it until I know incase I sieze the engine.

    Hope this makes scense.

    Waiting in anticipation.

    Cheers Doogzie.

  6. My Dad started a trials bike club and we got permission from Sir Cameron Makintosh to use some of his land our club has 17,000 acres to practice on we have trials events in the village and raise cash at different events we have given demonstrations to the local crofters and farmers at agricultural shows.

Next weekend we are doing Pipers burn sections from the Scottish 6 day trials. My dad is a policeman in the village and organised the club to ensure all of the boys in the village did everything by the book we have 3 bike trailers so can take 9 bikes out to organisations.
