No car forums, sorry. I only use cars for transport.
I'm on the (yahoogroups.com) Honda S90 forum, this contains loads of information and many helpfull participants.
And my bike is on a French forum (http://trial-en-ancienne.creer-forums.com/) and on the website of www.classictrial.nl (report of the 2015 Pleasure Plonkers Trial, Eurocup, in Arnhem Holland).
With the affordable engine you apply there is no worry about availability of parts.
It would fit in the twinshock competition in Holland. There are some in competition using a XYZ or similar engine in a Montesa frame.
I use a Honda S90 trial special (Ives inspired) with the original engine (slightly upgraded), but parts are not so easy to find for a 50 year old S90 engine.
I can't find prices of the Mini Otter on your very nice website.
hi, this site has been great in answering most of the questions to help me restore my 301,thanks for that, now i am stuck, my bike was running now it will not start, had a good spark, ducati, but bought new just in case, and fuel is getting through, any suggestions please, thanks ray
You could try a new, clean sparkplug. Maybe the old one became dirty.
Maybe the tap is (partly) blocked by 8 years pf storage.
Succes,
Arie from Holland
Hi all, just picked up a nice original 201 (been stored for 8 yrs)but the carb set up is not great, have removed and cleaned the carb and jets ( with a compressor)and the bike does not idle very well. it feels like its running out of fuel the revs pick up and off it goes but as it settles back down it will stall if i dont have the tickover screw wound in .I have played with the mixture screw and by unscrewing it 3 turns it does improve a little .Any clues ? thanks Scorpa250
There are 2 trial Stornello's in Holland as far as I know, and I spotted a "German" Stornello at the Sleen Trial last year.
I will not be at Baarlo, I started last Saturday in Arnhem but I'm hopelesly out of shape and had to stop (and I'm allready a modest trialist :>)
So I'll compete again next year, after more training, and probably on my Fantic 125 1978.
The Guzzi is all sorted and has been at the Dynojet testbank last month for final adjustment of the carburator.
I mainly used it for training, and two or three trials in Holland (sand and grass).
The bike is to powerfull for me in competition in sand and I'm offering it for sale/swap in Holland at the moment.
I'm looking for a swap with a very tidy Yamaha TY175/250 or Fantic 200. I won't get the money back I invested but it's a shame to keep the bike in stock just to have an occasional look at it.
I'm also open to (swap)offers from the UK or Germany.
Kind regards,
Arie from Holland.
@TY 250 NL(Arie),
we went last weekend to the Plonkers Trial(Eurocup)in Arnhem and there was also one of your countryman competing on a stornello(4speed)i think he rode a Enfield before. There was also a guy on a SWM framed Kawasaki.Nice Bike.I have a few friends in Italy they ride Stornellos. They have ridden the Manx 2 Day Classic and the Jersey 2 Day with these bikes.Very Competitiv. We also have a few here in Germany riding these little Guzzis.
By the way are you coming to Baarlo on the 17th of October?
Do you have the version with the brakefluid reservoir on the bars or the version with the cable operated reservoir behind the headlight.
The first version is straightforward bleeding, you could place the caliper in a position that the bleeding nipple is at the highest position of the caliper. That also gives you more space to operate the nipple,
The second version can have a worn or old brake cable which needs replacing.
Also the piston in the brake reservoir can be worn, resulting in the loss of pressure.
You then have to take it all apart and give it a good cleaning (and maybe some new rubbers).
But most of the times the piston is sticking in the caliper (a lot of dirt around and old age).
One of my bikes is a Moto Guzzi engine (1969/70) in a SWM frame (1980/81).
Do I get to ride a class of my own?
I ride classic twinshock competition in Holland (medium skilled) and I'm always welcome.
This bike is not about winning (the bike could, but I can't :>), but to extend the pleasure in the sport by building and/or maintaining your own special bike.
I really like the looks of a converted TY250 or a converted Honda.
Last year I competed with a 1986 Fantic 301 progress 2 (monoshock), but I had to join the modern mono's class, which with my skills is a lonely route.
The twinshock concept I like most is the american ITSA concept, ride the twinshock you bring!
