  1. I got one of the SM Tanks for my MK1 and it is a very poor fit(read not even close), about an inch and a half shorter in length and rather angular not at all shaped like the MAR tank so depending on how you mount it you either have a gap between the tank and the seat or a rather large gap between the front of the tank and the steering head. The odd thing is it fits my friends RL250 like a glove and looks closer in shape to his tank than it does the MAR tank.

The reply I got from SM when I brought it to there attention was not to pleasing considering what it cost to purchase and then have shipped across the pond. I'll just have to pray that my friends RL needs a tank soon so that I can suck him into buying it.

  2. This information was taken from the Dellorto Tuning Manual and sounds like you may want to look at the Idle Jet;

    PROPER SELECTION OF THE IDLE

    JET

Generally, if the selected idle jet is

too big, the engine may tend to stall

    and responds to the accelerator

slowly with a deaf and feeble sound,

usually overcome by closing the throttle

    temporarily.

If, on the contrary, the jet is too

small, the engine responds better to

the accelerator (except when it stalls

when the jet is much too small), but

when the throttle is closed, the

    speed (rpm) doesn't decrease immediately,

    and the speed remains high

for few seconds before settling down

    to idle.

Installation of an idle jet that is too

small on a two stroke engine can be

dangerous since there is the risk of

    engine seizure during throttle closing,

    especially when the engine has

run at wide open throttle for a long

    time. Under these conditions, when

the throttle closes, the engine keeps

on running at high speed and therefore

if the idle circuit creates too

lean a mixture, the thermal load due

to the overly lean combustion presents

the risk of damage the engine

    from overheating and subsequent

    seizure.

  3. I have 2 MAR tanks that were in a bad way, fortunately the fibreglass had not gotten soft cause if it does your hooped cause then your only choice is to split the tank and do some lay up work, in my case I was recommended to use a product from Caswells Plating by the Composites Engineer where I work that is also a vintage bike enthusiast, I got it from the distributor in Canada but you will likely have to go here http://www.caswelleurope.co.uk/gastank.htm. The job was done 2 years ago and there have been no leaks what so ever and has stood up very well. On the one tank the inner surface resin layer was in very bad shape so I did 2 layers of the Caswells Fuel Tank sealer and is extremely easy to work with and sets up hard within the hour providing it is not done in a cold area. I would highly recommend you give it a try before shelling out major coin for a new tank.

  4. Thanks Martin, I have ordered parts from Bob Wright but I am going to be in France working later this summer and would like to do some one stop shopping for parts for the Fantic and my MARs for the winter tear down and this way I can avoid shipping costs to Canada. With the e-mail address I can forward them my wish list and hopefully they can have everything ready when I get there. Thanks again Martin.

  6. 1 Stone equals 14 pounds(I think)

I have the NJB dual rate springs on my OSSA MAR and they work great. I also have a 240 and was wondering what the Swing Arm bearing mod you are referring too!

  7. I did make a query to the person selling that Bashplate on e-bay but I live in Canada and he is not willing to forward it here. If someone manages to locate one I would be greatful if they could forward the contact info to me at dirtmudnroost@yahoo.ca

  8. I have recently come into possession of a 240 Fantic and the Skid Plate is missing, does anyone happen to have or know of one lying about in someones collection of spares that they would be willing to part with. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  9. I have decided to replace the AMAL 627 on my 76 MAR and go with the Mikuni VM Carb mod, what I would like assistance with is has anyone out there done this mod and what size Carb did they use and what size Jets did they select. The other question that I have is what setup was used for mounting to the Barrel and to the Airbox. Any and all assistance and recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

  10. This bike looks absolutely identical, especially the Engine to the Cagiva TR 3.5 that I owned, the only difference that I can see is the Seat Tank combo as the Cagiva was a one piece unit. I managed to locate a couple of parts from Brittalia Motors in California as they imported a couple from the factory for the world round that I believe was held at the Donner Ranch in California at that time. I also found parts from this guy in Holland but his prices were absolutely absurd. It was a very good runner with a strong motor, but did not track as well as my MAR 250 or my Sherpa-T. I got the name of a chap at the Cagiva factory and he informed me that all of the M-X and Trials stuff had been sold off to a buyer in a case lot and that from there everything was sold off to various dealers all over. If you should have any questions please feel free to contact me at dirtmudnroost@yahoo.ca

  11. I own a 76 OSSA 250 MAR with the AMAL 627 Carb and have not been able to find any information on this Carb as most of the machines imported to Canada came with the IRZ unit. I am attempting to obtain the original stock configuration Jet sizes(Pilot, Needle Jet, Main Jet) and part numbers for various items(Needle Jet Holder, Float Needle, Float Needle Seat, Carb Gasket and O-Ring Kit)), along with the settings for the Pilot Air Screw, Throttle Stop Screw and the appropriate Clip setting on the Needle. I would if possible like to find any servicing/overhaul/parts information pertaining to this Carb in print(or digital) if available. Can anyone provide any assistance or direct me to someone that can. Please forward any information to dirtmudnroost@yahoo.ca

  12. I am currently looking at a late 80's TY and have had no luck locating any maintenance or parts manuals(microfiche acceptable) for the air-cooled monoshock years on this side of the pond(Canada US) and was wondering if anyone could direct me to a shop or someone that has these manuals available. Please forward any information and contact details to dirtmudnroost@yahoo.ca

  13. I am going to be looking at a 99 Scorpa, is there anything that was problematic to this particular year or is there anything in general that I should watch out for . I am in the process of stepping up from vintage(76 Ossa MAR) is this machine fairly user friendly and what are its shortcomings and strengths. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to forward any information to my personal e-mail address at dirtmudnroost@yahoo.ca.

    Cheers
