i agree, i think your best option is to take the gear selector fork out and have a look if its bent.. never encountered the false neutral though......??
hope you get it sorted.......all the best

hi mate, sorry to hear about your injury. in my opinion i would stick with the monty unless your itchin for a new bike? i you did want a newer bike theni would say go for the 200 as it just seems logical. a newer bike would def be lighter but as for being as reliable as the monty then im just not sure. i had a monty 315 for two years and i can still not find a bad word to say about it. it did everything i asked of it and still had gas left in the tank.
i hope you have fun making your decision and remember that the memories of the injury will wain with time. i too injured my knee while attempting a silly!!!!! section. i was nervous for a while but after a few days out gentle riding my confidence was back and after 6 mths i dont give it a seccond thought. my best mates knee got bent 180 degree's in the wrong direction a few years back and he still rides enduro very competitivley on a mental gas gas ec 300 using a knee brace that without would render his leg/knee useless. he said you just got to learn to ride the bike better and make sure you dont come off badly.
i hope it all works out whatever you decide, and your welcome to a ride out in shropshire anytime...
all the best.......matt

cheers, i thought it might be that!! all ok at mo with minimal play so will prob leave for the winter unless it gets too bad, and carry out the repairs next spring. i will prob only ride it 10 times between now and then.
thanks again for your help........matt

most of the bikes i have owned ahve had tubeless tyres but have been fitted with tubes for extra security? if you want you can get an uber thick (whale foreskin) enduro tube that you would prob struggle to cut with a stanley knife.. prob not best for competition use but ok for tinkering around on...
cheers

hi there, i have a 95 beta techno. i know its not the newest or "best" but i love it and it does me for what i want. everything seems tight on the bike apart from a little play in the rear end... let me try to explain,
when the bike is on the ground (not stand) and i grab the underside of the rear subframe i can lift this up and there seems to be about 1 or 2 cm vertical play. i know the swingarm bushes are ok so i pressume this would be the linkage? so i guess my questions are,
1, where is this play associated with a,linkage
b,suspension mounts
c,rear shock
2, is it worth repairing this for a novice(ish) rider tackling mild obstacles, or live with it for a year until i upgrade?
3, anybody got any idea what it would cost and how much time it would take ( real time not including beer, tea, fags and other distractions)
thanks in advance.......Matt

hello mate. that sort of cash should get you whatever you like. i was always a montesa 315 man but have just bought a beta techno and love it. advice is maybe spend about a grand on a bike and for that money you will still get a good one. my local trials shop in church stretton has an 05 gas gas 300 for 1450 and also a 2001 250 for 995. Buy something you dont mind chucking around until you have learnt the basics and are a confident rider. you WILL drop the bike and prob break the rear fender at some point on any machine so start with something you dont mind throwing about a bit...
if you are ever over in shropshire then give us a call and we could meet up for a ride..
all the best............matt

cheers, the guy i bought it off had been running it at 50:1 butit smokes when you nail it. i have cleared the tank and started running it at 70:1 which has reduced the exaust smoke alot. think i will try a slightly leaner mix though.. 80:1 then 100:1 if need be.
Thanks for all your help.....

hi there, i know this is an old post but i got to say.. you should never kick any bike over without mx or trials boots on. i learnt that a while ago when i nearly snapped my shin.. just picked up a techno myself so hop i dont have the same p[roblems but at least i know where to look to fix them.

hi there, my name is matt. just got myself a 95 beta techno after a few years break from trials. i reckon the gear problem and rubbish brakes can be sorted if you want to. this is by far the cheapest motorbike sport and is seriously addictive and is crazy fun. All the best for your riding. if you are ever in shropshire then give me a call and lets hook up for a ride..
regards........matt

Hello everybody, thought i would start here as it seems the most logical place. My name is Matt and i live just outside Shrewsbury. I have just come back from a 3yr break away from trials and have just bought myself a really good beta techno. I will be making a few trips to practice grounds and a few abit further away should anyone wish to join me. I cant wait to get back out again on the trials iron. i hope to use this bike for a year or so to get my hand back in and then maybe upgrade again when the time is right. Would love to hear from any other trials riders in the Shropshire area.
All the best.......Matt Clarke

Hi everyone, hoping some of you kind beta owners out there can help me. this will be my seccond trials bike and my way back in after a 3yr break. i just need help with a few things to make sure i wont kill the bike.
1- can anybody help me with a manual in pdf format- please and i promise to pass it on to other owners when i have it.
2-fuel mixture. i have heard differences from 50:1 to 70:1 - 70:1 sounds about right to me but i just want to check.
3-the bike seems fine with no issues but was just wondering if anybody had any hints, tips or tricks to help or things that i need to keep on top of as part of the maintenance schedule. I think the bike is a 95' the last one with usd forks.
I ride in Shropshire and surrounding areas if anybody would like to meet up for some fun. I mainly go to Tom's Farm for a full day out but want to try Hawk's nest in Buxton as thats where my dad used to ride and also hermatige farm in cheadle sounds good.
hope to hear from you soon........all the best........Matt Clarke

Hi, my name is Matt. I live in shropshire and am making a return to trials. I bought a 2000 monty 315r about 5 years ago and rode it everywhere with no problems ever.. I thought i would like to try something different so a couple of years ago i sold the monty and decided to buy a quad and try that. had a very bad quad expierience (of the maintenance kind), then sold it and got an enduro to ride the lanes. OK, but i miss the trials riding too much so have sold the enduro bike and are looking to buy a trials iron later in the month. Would love to hear from anyone else in shropshire out there riding trials and poss meet up for some days out. Usual day jaunt is toms farm or also know a few good local areas that i have ridden before.. Also the eternal question of which bike to buy now?????
All the best..
