    Convert To 'stealth'

Quick update: Repacked the end pipe / silencer today. Didn't reduce anything in volume or popping. Old stuffing was of course very "oily", but that's pretty normal for all 2-bangers I've owned. Also checked he exhaust end to end and no leaks found. Tomorrow I will retard the timing 4mm as described. I am not quite sure what that means, but I guess its moving the stator plate whatever 4mm so it ignites LATER. Anyway, I can reverse it if no success. BTW, mounted the long ranke tank and seat also and had a short testride. This is going to be the perfect weapon for sneaking around in the woods. If I only could get it a bit quieter I'd be super happy. Better I check out that tip for the 40mm insert in the ctr box right now.
  2. Holy crap! This mod really works! Let me say I didn't have so much believe in would fix my problem which actually is clutch slipping in 5th and 6th which is stated to be pretty "normal" for the Beta's (I have a rev3 270). The job was PITA and took me a couple of evenings, but it was all worth it. Clutch is both feelier and as I said, no more slipping. Thanks! I can't say I noticed any significant increase in the chatter either, but I am not so experienced. The bike vibrates and make so much chatter already so it can't get any worse I guess ;-)

Thanks! About retarding the timing. Are you referrring to a 4mm change on the statorplate whatever (compared to some marks) or do you mean 4mm in piston travel? Gosh... I really hope you mean that stator 'marks'.

Its forbidden by law. You must have a special permission to use any motorized vehicles 'off-road' (doesn't matter if you are the landowner). Earlier we didn't care, and most didn't. But it has gotten worse and the current fine is approx $2.500 USD if you get caught. 'Stealth' is a good thing. I am pretty sure I will own an electric bike also in a few years.

OK. I will inspect. But your idea was to 'narrow' the ID of the exhaust?

Hi guys! In lack of any trial clubs / track etc. where I live (withing 1,5 hours), I've been just playriding and practising in my fathers woods a year or so. After he did some serious logging there, all the sections and tracks are destroyed. OK. So I have another friend who is one hour from me with a Sherco 4t. We plan to let's say 'explore' with the bikes (also on private lands owned by others). As it is VERY illegal here in Norway to go offroad with any motorized vehicle (only on approved closed circuits), things can happen In those cases its nice to know your bike is very silent. So in a plan to make it as 'stealth' as possible, what to do? The bike is popping too much. Its a '06 Rev3 270. I've read some threads and I will go over the exaust and make sure noe false air is coming in / out. Also the reeds will be checked. The PO was expert / elite rider and the bike has been used in events. So I asked him about jetting and he didn't remember at the time, but said it was set up the best he could / liked at the time he handed it over to me. I am thinking about one of those db snorkels or whatever. I don't know if it'll fit, but I will check up on that. I don't care if I loose some ponies as the main goal is make is as quiet as possible. So I am thinking that I must try to reduce the popping first (despite its quite normal I hear), and later try to reduce the overall db. Any ideas? Thanks for any input!
  7. Thanks! I will open up the stuff after Easter and check everything. Better get me some ATF oil too just to compare.
  8. Do you mean the sides on the "fingers" of the basket?
  9. Hi guys! After almost 10 years with enduros (HS, GNCC and 'special events'), I decided to explore the trials world more. My last races tended to be much trials anyway (like Erzberg), so I was thinking, what the heck, it sure doesn't hurt getting better so I can return to those extreme enduros even better skilled. Anyway, I picked up this used '07 Beta rev3 270cc, and it seems to be in ok shape. The prev owner put approx 100 hours on it (maybe some more), and hasn't replaced anything on the bike. However, after reading a couple of nights here on the forum, I was thinking I could find some solutons to my "issues": 1. Clutch drags 2. Clutch is slipping in 6th (not other gears) 3. Experience with the extra tank and seat kit. OK, the clutch drags, but it varies. I can warm it up and let it spin ang slip through some gears, and its better. But I never come to the point it won't creep forward in first. Sometimes it gets worse, so I have to watch the idle, or else it can die for me. Some more revving and slipping makes it a bit better again. I'm currently using a Motul 10-40 oil I used alot in KT 2-strokes with great success. Unfortunately I had to dump the fresh Ipone oil the prev owner changed to, due to an oil leak I was aware of (bad clutch basket). I have read that some of you are using ATF oil, but not all agree it solves the problems. Then I read about any good quality 75w oil. I'm kind of split here, but probably I'll end up with trying both. I've also come over some articles stating that this small creep is quite "normal" for those Beta's or even trial bikes. True? I have also adjusted the clutch lever as far it goes, but it doesn't help much. Later I will pull the plates and look for grooves in the basket or warped plate etc. I can also add its VERY hard to find netural (but that's kind of noraml I guess after reading here). It also requires som effort / force to shift gears UP. Going down is much easier. Do you think this is related to the clutch isn't fully disengaging or could it be more a question of oil type? The second problem is that the 6th slips way too much. But the sttrange thing it doesn't show any sign of slipping in 5th. Why this dramatic difference from 5th to 6th ? And, is this also quite "normal" for this bike? You see, the plan is also to mount the extra tank and this seat that comes in a kit. Not for regular use, but then I can just sign up in a enduro race now and then and really upset my old friends. Hopefully I will roost some of them in the results, and that will make the really angry. Anyway, anybody with experience from this kit? Thanks for answering a newbie trials bike owner! -olec
