Bultaco Sherpa 1972 Gear Oil

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just wondering which oil I have to use for the gearbox from my 250cm

The oil specified should be EP (Extreme Pressure) 90 in the UK. Also known as Hypoy oil.

Castrol produce this oil for car gearboxes, smells horrible, but that is what I have used in all my Bultacos over the years, never had a failure yet!

Have a look at their website for applications including the classic range, you will find EP90 in there under Hypoy Gear oil.

Officially Bultaco recomend 500cc of EP90 but if you can't get hold of

any then use a good motorcycle 10W40 gearbox oil NOT car 10W40 engine oil.

This will work ok as it is not in contact with the clutch.

As for the clutch ONLY use 'ATF' or 'AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID'

the std red stuff you can get from most motor factors/shops

Use 250cc for a refil or 300cc from dry.

DO NOT use any other oil in a sherpa clutch as it can cause clutch slip

and other problems.

I use ep90 for gearbox and tqf for clutch , the only bike i know that uses 140 is moto-guzzie rear diff
