June 18, 201016 yr i went from a 2002 sherco 290 to a 2007 sherco 290, but the gearing feels totally different, if for example there is a long steepish hill to climb, it 3rd gear seems to low, but 4th seems to high.. on my 2002 theres a few long hills where i ride i used to climb in 4th no problem, but on this 2007 bike in 4th its bogging out by the top, in 3rd its revving like mad by the top.. any one else find the same, or is it just me?
June 19, 201016 yr There has always been a big gap between 1-2-3 and 4-5 on the bikes. In '02 year, there was a change, and many thought the first gear was too high, so went to a 9-42 or a 10-44, from the standard 10-42. This tightens up the overall ratio as well, making the gap between 3-4 less, and 5th more usable on trails. All point being, your old bike may have had this change. Add, with standard gearing of 10-42 on the new bike, if 4th is a bit too high, you can probably just go back to 3rd and cruses up at a slower speed without revving the crap out of it.
June 20, 201016 yr 4th up hills always requires alot of momentum at the bottom to carry the speed up, 3rd just slip the clutch as your gongi up and dont rev the knackers off it.
