I made the mistake of sicking a 3M scratch resistant plastic film over my frame number some time back to keep it free from rust. A few weeks ago decided to repaint the frame so I peeled that film off only to rip off the original paint area over the serial number (which I'm told is powercoat). So I used some medium emery paper to smooth off the paint and hey presto the serial number was gone is just a few seconds...I was shocked :mellow:

I learnt from that that it doesn't take much to rub off a stamped serial number.
