1978 TY 250 Oil pump removal

Evening all,

Recently purchased an immaculate '78 TY 250 that has been dry stored in a hall cupboard since 1993! Removed the carb to give it a clean, however it was gummed up beyond cleaning. That was solved by purchasing a Dellorto PHBL 26 from Craig at Yamaha Majesty shop. Got that fitted this evening and she fired up fourth kick!

I have removed the two stroke oil tank and I have replaced the throttle cable to one that only operates the slide. So to cut to the chase - Is it best to leave the oil pump intact? Or remove it and fit a blanking plate? I would have thought that if it were left it would seize up due to the absence of any lubrication.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks

Mike.

Best to remove the pump and blank it off,I made my own plate cos I wanted to get it running quickly,(Plus I may be a bit tight.) not hard to make, but available from the usual sources if you just want to buy one.

I hope you enjoy riding it,they are a good tool.
