TY175 will run but not rev

Featured Replies

Hi, just had my TY rebuilt, it would'nt run properly when I bought it so thought I would have the engine rebuilt.

Had new bearings, rod, piston (not genuine, from ebay ?) points, condenser, Wes pipe, and stainless front pipe.

Will run, just, starts first kick but wont rev. Pulling choke makes no difference. When I bought it the guy had put a new carb on it but its not the 525 Mikuni. Am I waisting my time until I get the right carb ?

Cheers

Sounds like timing needs advancing... Move it slightly too far and it will pop and bang! Dead easy to try and costs nothing... Moving the points slightly to the right on the plate should do it - a hundredth of a mm

.... Could be carb of course!

Have a look in the airbox,if there a 2 rubber pipes on the bottom, throw them away. The engines do not rev if they are in the airbox.

hi,did you replace the crank seals? my ty250 did the same thing starts first kick but wouldn't rev

changed the seals now perfect

Does seem to point to carb, what with it being the same before as after the rebuild and the none stock carb being fitted.

First check the timing though.

Contact me if you'd like to try a stock carb, I have one and I'm in London.
