How do I know which engine I've got?

Featured Replies

The engine in my 97 JTX250 was swapped a few years ago, if I remember what the bloke who sold it to me said, and I think it was a newer year motor that is in it. Gas Gas Uk said they don't keep records of engine numbers so can't tell me which model I've got so does anyone know how to find out?

It has

GG27

F11960570

as the engine number and its definately a 250cc

I don't need anything special at the minute just na O ring for the head and a base gasket so I can check the piston and bore etc. but I would like to know what model engine it is so if I need anything specific in future.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Somebody might correct me but im sure all engines were similar if not the same from 95-2001 ish before the pro model. And im almost certain that another engine before or after this period wouldnt fit easily...

So as long as the parts you order are for a 250 they should fit.

Post a pic if possible

hi HoggyF, on my engine there is a number stamped next to the spark plug which matches the cc and year of my bike, eg. 25T99, and can only be seen with the fuel tank off.
