Hello

I was wondering if anyone has the thread strip on the clutch cover on a 290 sherco? Im pretty sure there is enough good useable thread at the bottom of the hole so I will try a longer cap head. Has anyone successfully tapped it out to a M6? I was not sure if there was sufficient metal around the edge of the casting tp do so.

Cheers

Andy

See if you can find someone with an M5 helicoil or V coil kit who can repair it for youhttp://www.engineering-supplies.com/cat/88/helicoil-v-coil-wire-inserts-taps-gauges-/

Alternatively if you can find someone good with a lathe they can make you a say M5.3 screw.

Cheers

Helicoil requires drilling the hole quite large...there may not be enough material.

Loctite makes a thread repair that they claim is permanent.

I've used it and it works surprisingly well.

I wouldn't hesitate to try it on something like a clutch cover that doesn't carry any mechanical stress.
