The colour on titanium and steel pipe is dependent on the temperature where they are exposed to oxygen. The colour is an oxide film. Putting it simply the darker the colour the hotter the oxide film was formed at. If you heat steel or titanium in pure argon they stay bright silver because there is no oxygen to form the coloured oxide.
