Point Opening On Cota 348

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me how to tell the exact moment the points start to open on my cota 348? i am thinking along the lines of a circuit test or something.

So as i can set the ign. timing correctly

many thanks and hello from a newby!

A test light or a buzzer box. They used to be real common, but not hard to make. I am not sure if they are still available at the bike shops through Motion Pro or someone or not.

Ask around to a shop that does older bikes and they should have one.

Thanks Alan, i can make a test lamp, but is it simply a case of one wire on each side of contact breaker??

RS, do you mean put the rizla between the points/contacts and turn the flywheel until it begins to slide out??????

Excuse my ignorance.

Thanks for that.

Incidentally if youd tried the cota this morning, complete with brand new piston etc, then tried it this afternoon after i had reasonably accurately set the timing maybe its more critical than you would have thought!!!

night and day springs to mind....gave me a wee fright for one moment.! really quite a sharp motor in decent nick!!!!!!!

cheers.
