March 6, 201412 yr I've just taken the current breather elbow out and a m5 bolt looks like it will be too small, just inside the casing I can see a spline, am I tapping out the first part or the spline as well ?
March 6, 201412 yr Author I think the spline may be the torx head of the shaft trailtrail was referring to so I dont think that wants to be tapped. Looking at the 2014 parts diagram the bolt looks to be very short so I would guess that it only goes into the casing, probably the 2014 bikes have this hole tapped with the gearbox out to make it easier. I cannot get to mine until Saturday, keep me informed as to how you get on.
March 6, 201412 yr Author would an m6 be a better fit? I wondered about the m5 size as the elbow breather itself must be at least that big in diameter
March 6, 201412 yr Done mine tonight, drilled it with 5.5mm drill and it stops At the splined bit, then tapped it out for a M6 bolt and fitted It with a copper washer, I've made a spare bolt to carry with me Just in case. Going to change the oil over the weekend And fill it back up with 450ml

April 17, 201412 yr Chaps, Just wondering how the vent fuel filler cap and hence 450ml of oil has worked out?? I've always worried about only 350ml of oil, so like the idea of this cost effective mod. JSP - also interested to hear how you are adapting to the 300 from your 280?? I offered on the 300 Factory that you bought and am rather kicking myself now as clearly was a bit of a tightwad and missed it by a few quid. Anyway am leaning towards having a new 2014 Factory, assuming they do one this year and if so the price is not somewhere in the stratosphere!! Anyway would warmly welcome hearing your feedback. April 17, 201412 yr 437- the vented oil filler cap is a sucsess, very easy to block the original vent and the vented cap works a treat. I dont really find the 300 that much of a handfull compared to the 280, I did put my slow action throttle on and its ok, thats all I'm doing with it for now. you did miss out on a belter it had only done 30 hours when I got it !!!! April 17, 201412 yr Thanks JSP Rub it in then wont you ...... It did look to be in mint condition and clearly was a good buy - damn!! Pleased to hear the vent mod works well - will get one on order, as am riding a few nationals this year and they do get quite warm on the road, so the extra oil will be welcome. Thanks again
