Just Rebuilt

Hi Chaps,

Ive just rebuilt my 2000 sherco (last night), having installed new crank shaft bearings/seals/and piston rings. On starting she revs like a chainsaw on heat whilst on choke, take off the choke and she coughs and sputters and to keep her running a slight amount of throttle is needed which results in more banshee wailing or spluttering. The CDI is back to its original position, the fly wheel can only go on one way, the carby is set up correctly and works perfectly well on my 99 sherco. Question is what can be causing it, airleaking? timing? carby?

All help greatfully recieved!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have a ty 250 mono that was running horrible did all the bits carb timing leaks etc turned out to be a small piece of debris wedging the reed valve open only slightly but removing it sorted it completely. :wall:

Sounds a lot like an air leak.

Check for air leaks at:

The cylinder base gasket.

The crank seals. Are they fitted the right way around? Are they the right type?

The reed case to crankcase joint.

The carby to reed case connecting piece.

Did you take the throttle slide out to fit the carby to the bike? If so is the slide in backwards?

Were the sealing surfaces of the crankcase halves OK?
