Seems the last few rounds of banter, heated debate, where over technical issues.

We have guys on here that speak to their knowledge of torque wrenches, electric pumps, mechanical pumps,

and all sorts of others technical prowess.

Made me wonder what do we really know about each other? Mmmm Do we know what each other does for a living, what our trades or profession is, what our academic training is? Do we even care?

Might be interesting to learn a bit more about each other.

In that vein I will go first:

Been riding trials for about 35 years.

My riding skills are quickly going to hell in a hand basket (due to two recent big come offs and susbsequent operations to fix torn bicept,

torn rotator cuff and broken ribs, and elbow tendonits).

Recovery gets harder when you are almost 60.

I am not as brave (or stupid) as I once was, I think twice now before going for something big.

I would like to think my technical skills are getting better though.

Hi Bill, how's that for starters, I used a real name. I have always been baffled why folks on this forum do not use their names, some do I know, must be a reason I suppose. I am a member of a guitar forum (as I build guitars and do stringed instrument repairs) and everybody uses their name on that forum.

I just think it's nice to be on first name terms with each other, moderators on the guitar forum ask newbies to use their names should they sign off with " dogsgutstromitter" , ok it doesn't meen a thing to me either. Cheers Taff

Almost didn't look at this post as when trials riders "have a thought" you never know what might happen. Maybe you should change the title to - "Hey, who the hell are you anyways?".

My name is Heather Too young to know better.

I live in lovely wet Wales in the UK. I work as a clothing merchandiser at the moment, used to work in catering both as a chef and front of house as a waitress. My ambition is to sell paintings and drawings as a means of living, I'm still working on that. I enjoy horse riding with my mum and also enjoy riding a road bike quick, hehe.

Other than that, trials is awesome! Getting better all the time, this is a long term game that's for sure!

I am Chris Harris, you can probably tell that I've got a little boy called Elliot, he'll be 6 in January, gulp!

I work for an aerospace firm called Messier-Bugatti-Dowty LTD.

The company design and manufacture landing gear for military and civil aircraft. My role is as a Non-Destructive Test (NDT)Technician...basically it's my job to inspect each landing gear component using various (yawn!) methods to ensure they will not fail in service and kill everyone on board, happy days.

I have been playing guitar since I was 13, I olympic lift at a local gym a few times a week and have quite an unhealthy obsession with performance cars and bikes, mainly off road bikes but also on road stuff recently as I am currently doing my test.

I live in the Forest Of Dean in Gloucestershire with my girlfriend Nicole (shameless plug coming up) who has her own jewellery business www.nicoleiredaledesigns.com and Elliot on the weekends....plus various fluffy and non fluffy animals.

There is already a place where you can introduce yourself if you wish to but regarding the post here goes.

On another forum (not motorcycles) I used to post under my full name and just short of my full address and in a perfect world would still do so. However the internet is not a perfect world.

Firstly you can open yourself up to theft, either physical or identity.

On the forum I refer to above, and by having a website a person built himself and entirely false identity as a specialist and classic car repairer. He took his time over it and did a good job, he was a mechanic and did sufficient good work both parts by post and car repairs. He always collected the customers car and left a courtesy car. He was clever enough to make sure none of the other forum members visited his premises. He only dealt with people well over 100 miles away and used excuses like away for training or premises being refurbished. On his website he showed a large clean garage with about 4 car lifts, in reality it was a lock up garage type place. After gaining members confidence he ripped of quite a few to the tune of several £thousands.

On another occasion a member was having valuable classic car engine fully refurbished at a small out of the way reconditioners. Every few days he would proudly post progress and details including approximately when he was going to collect it. Someone collected it from the reconditioners on his behalf and disappeared with it. The reconditioners were taken in by the collectors chat and the police are sure the thief had gained all his information solely from the forum. The forum is still going but is a shadow of its former self.

Secondly you can open yourself up to abuse.

At my last but one employer we were prohibited from putting our names or any information that may lead to our identification on forums, and this rule was with the full approval of the trade unions. Some staff had had their lives made a misery (to the point of nervous breakdown) by defamatory posts. Not only was this bad for the staff but anyone doing a search under the member of staffs name could find false information that could have serious implications for the employers reputation. At some other employers the trade unions had evidence of managers monitoring forum use and attempting (illegally) to threaten employees with disciplinary action.

Another issue (sad but true) is multiple identity. Some people can have several different identities under which they post, they then use those multiple identities to reinforce their point of view or indulge in covert advertising.

Just look at what has happened internet wise to those who have expressed different views on the Ched Evans, Sheffield United debate. My view is that he has paid his done his time as required by our legal system and should be free to get on with his life and career. My view is valid and not unreasonable but I would never post it under my name and address.

I`m one of the honorary founders of The Selfish *******s Club. All of our members put motorcycles and trials before anything else. I have had several changes of occupations through the years, but putting riding before anything else is what I have done the best!

What relevance has a convicted rapist overpaid footballer who has been found guilty got to do with a trials website? You may be a dad of two but i bet they arent raped girls.

Done trials since the mid 70s,at varying levels,had most makes of bikes over the years.

Help run the local club even get called trials convener,

Was in the motor trade until the 90s,call my self a gardener now,but really just a glorified odd job man.

Also work for a well known children's organisation.

And have two Border collies. that look and act even crazier than the one in my avatar.

I'm a master mechanic , with a masters in mechanical engineering to back up my limited thought processes ... I turned 54 today and have spent the last 16 years as a single dad raising my 3 kids , the youngest was hours old when I started . Hence my career kinda got put on hold , my kids come first .

Now I just try to have fun at work getting paid to do what I enjoy , and some folks truly appreciate ...

Started riding trials back in the late '70's as a kid , took about 30yrs off from the sport and got back into it around 2005 .

Now I've got this Fantic addiction , and it's worse than beer and cigarettes !
