August 29, 200520 yr my son has a 2001 txt280 and is having problems with the clutch. He finds it difficult to pull in using 1 finger and because of this starts to develope cramp in his forearm! Does anyone know how to cure the problem? The lever is well greased and the bolt is not tight. many thanks
August 30, 200520 yr Try changing the lever position. I had this problem when my lever was too low. Now I keep it a few degrees below horizontal.

August 31, 200520 yr Author I moved lever but clutch still felt very stiff so i decided to have a look at the clutch & springs. Then springs felt very difficult to compress so i left 3 of them out & it now feels superb and its not slipping! Im beggining to think someone has changed the springs for some reason bit cant think why. Will this cause a problem long term until i can find the correct replacements? regards mick
August 31, 200520 yr As he uses his finger it will get stronger , i get the same problem i just use 2 or 3 fingers when not in sections. But think theres some sort of excercise ball or something which you can get .. think it was on a topic before on here.
September 1, 200520 yr Author i dont think his strength is a problem he can hop and throw his pushbike about like bruce lee used his nunchuks the clutch was very, very stiff. still think its the springs but will have to get an expert opinion mick
September 3, 200520 yr one of the problems i have found on pros is a heavy clutch on early bikes this is easily diagnosed . When the clutch cover is removed the fingers will be flat (not sticking outwards) new clutch plates will solve the prob bringing the fingers out and a lovely light clutch
September 5, 200520 yr The only problem fewer springs could cause is slipping. If it's not slipping, you're fine.
September 5, 200520 yr Author Thanks for all your replies Been in touch with gasgas they say the same,"as long as the clutch is not slipping it shouldnt cause any problems" Hopefully we will not have any more temper tantrums & my bike stays safe for a little while longer
