Sherco 290 2005 Jetting

Featured Replies

:hat: Hello TC people,

Just bought an 05 290 Sherco last night-- tried it out at the sellers place for at least 30 mins ( ran fine) then let my mate ride it ( needed a 2nd opinion) before I paid for it.

Yep you guessed it..started her up this morning- ran fine for five minutes then the motor wanted to die, needed lots of throttle to keep it going.

If I lifted the choke a second time the idle improved a lot- so why does it run lean like that.

I know the 05 models have a carb spacer so does the 05 need a richer pilot than previous models? What should it be?

I am at work as I write this so I am planning ahead for this evenings strip down .

Any ideas?,

Thanks,

Wayne

Should be 33 and 120 ish. If the bike was really clean the guy selling it may have given it an extra wash and not stripped the carb. Check the float level while its off and the banjo filter too. Bet its simple.

I agree with the other two posts, a tiny bit of dirt in the pilot will cause the symptoms you describe.

The test for plugged pilot, when bike at operating temp, (fan has kicked on)

lifting the choke lever a little makes the bike run better, clean pilot jet.
