Femsatronic ignition question

Hi all, my Lobito 175 Mk4 basket case project came with a blue Femsatronic ignition coil that goes on the bracket under the tank.  I’ve only seen the reddish colored versions of this coil, which are shaped identically to the blue one I have.  The connections look identical as well.  Does anyone know if there’s a difference between the blue and red coils, or is one just a later version of the same part?

Not sure on the specs or differences on red & blue coils.  On my M84, 175 Mk5 Lobito, there is a red rectifier that is mounted under the fuel tank and a blue coil that is mounted to a bracket that mounts to the rear engine mount, and that bracket also secures the lower area of the rear fender.

Thanks for the info.   Very interesting as the diagrams I’ve seen show the rectifier mounted to the rear motor mount and the coil under the tank.

You're welcome.  Here's a scan from the parts book that includes your model.  It appears that the rectifier is mounted under the fuel tank, but consistency often varied, and your bike may be different.

Thanks again.  I do have that parts book, but my last Lobito had the coil mounted under the tank, but now I'm wondering if it had been relocated by a prior owner.

With that age of the bike, I suppose anything is possible, for many owners ditched the battery - rectifier.  Here's some scans of your model (I believe) and a 125 test.  I do have a 175cc Mk V test, of sorts, if interested.

The easiest way to differentiate coils is to identify the number stamped on the coil bracket.  They will say ELB1-xxx or ELA2-xx   The femsatronic coils sometimes can be interchanged and work with lower units.  I actually have a list of what coil will match with what generator.  Having said that I would recommend using the correct matching setup.  There’s nothing wrong with femsatronic if it’s working correctly.  I’d continue to use it.  In fact the more it’s used the better it is for it.
