  1. This is a great discussion, it's refreshing to see everyone chipping in on this. __________________________________________________________ Bikespace, Thanks for the specific rule number, apparently I didn't "SCOUR" it too well LOL. Craig, You're absolutely right, if this was being done in such a trivial place in our section, who knows how many other times it had been done in other sections. I was not personally given the printed sheet you mentioned, it may have been in the Section Captain's packet, but I did not see it. Dabber, The Golf analogy is one that I too had been thinking of since Duluth. I believe that there are a few factors in play here; the golf crowds are bigger and more rules savvy, also there are cameras on the pro golfers at all times. It's hard to escape scrutiny when you have so many people/press around that will actually make a stink about the pro
  2. That's what I figured, thanks for the info. After checking out the results, the extra 2 points wouldn't have changed the standings in this situation.
  3. First of all, to say that Cody nailed section two (lap two) is an understatement. I was observing section two both days and he was the only clean we had on Saturday. We were all sitting around under a tent near the entrance of the section, waiting for the riders to start showing up when it started raining. Cody & Kip came tearing up and immediately wanted to ride the section; we barely had enough time to scramble up the hillside and take our places. Cody blasted up it like he had been practicing it all his life, It was quite impressive. I
  4. Besides the obvious environmental issues, are there any drawbacks to running leaded fuel in a trials bike? I've been looking for higher octane fuels in my area and the only stuff above 92 is some 100 octane leaded that I stumbled across. Of course I won't be running it, but it got me thinking...is leaded fuel bad for a trials bike? All I can think of is, there's no catalytic converter to muck up, so theoretically, I suppose it's probably better for it than unleaded (again, not that I'm going to run it in my Beta).
  5. Neosurge, I've had the exact same problem with my 2002 Rev-3. I'm not too upset about it, so I haven't pursued the issue. Like you, if I'm riding downhill and stop, then turn the bike off, it's nearly impossible to get started again until I level the bike out. I've also noticed some gas coming from the overflow a few times when this has happened. Also, when riding down a slow downhill giving it no gas the bike will kill, almost like it's flooded. I also notice a strong gas smell accompanied with these situations. Since I'm not too well versed in carb tuning and the like, I just decided keep the clutch in and give it a little more gas while on these slow downhills, but I too would like to know if there's a simple solution to my problem.
  6. CityTrials, I'm sorry I didn't reply to your email. My life got busy and I wasn't able to make it down to round 6. After hearing your post, I really wish I could have gone. Congrats go out to Pat and Andy, great work fellas.
  7. Rich, thanks for the compliment! Here are the details from that photo: Camera- Canon EOS 10D Lens- 28mm end of a Sigma 28mm-70mm EX DF Aperture- f/2.8 Shutter speed- 1/2000th Quad
  8. If I knew, I'd tell ya man.
  9. Heh, I was more concerned with those kids trying the X-Games moves (like this Superman) during their sections.
  10. Richard, This being my first trials bike, I guess I didn't know what to expect. Truthfully, the bike is in really good shape considering I bought it from Ron sight unseen. A used bike is perfect for me because I'd be so paranoid about scratching a new bike that I'd never ride it! LOL
  11. I just talked to Ron and he already has a clutch line and coil cover on the way to me via this thread! Now that's service! I know, I know, I should have called him yesterday, I don't know what I was thinking...I guess it was the procrastinator in me taking over although my wife attributes it to me being stupid! USBeta was a pleasure to work with, I can't say enough good things about these guys! Thank you so much!
  12. Well, I got my bike yesterday...the thing is awesome! The clutch line apparently broke during shipping but Ron is taking care of that for me (2nd day air)! Thanks Ron, for your excellent customer service! Here's a link to some pics of it. http://quadrajet.smugmug.com/gallery/156272 Edited because I was too dumb to call Ron when I first saw the shipping damage.
  13. kevinj, I have the form for the UMTA filled out and plan on bring it with me to Hixton this weekend. Will you be in Hixton Kevin? No I won't be riding in Hixton but I'll be there taking pictures, so look for the guy with the Canon 10-D.
  14. Oh man...I didn't know! I wonder if it's to late to send the Rev-3 back?!?!
  15. This will work out perfectly for me since I'm getting my first trials bike, (an '02 Beta) this week. My thanks to Wayne and Ryan for this great opportunity! BTW I just called and signed up...as of 4:30PM Central Time there are 18 spots left.
  16. Hey, thanks! Thanks also for the information about Ron. It's reassuring to know that I'm getting a quality used bike that's been gone over by a pro. Of course...a decent price, free shipping and an extra set of tires doesn't hurt either. It's funny, I saw a few bikes on the trialsXchange site that I liked. I emailed the people who were selling them and I only had one (very late) reply...and of course that bike was sold. Kind of frustrating.
  17. Well, I did it...I took the plunge. Yesterday I ordered my first trials bike ever! A 2002 Beta Rev-3 270 from Ron Commo at usbeta.com. I sent the check today...hopefully I should see the bike within a week or two.
  18. I have some photos I took at Duluth in a gallery here. I realize that most of these are in a vertical orientation, but if you find one you like, just specify a size and I'll see what I can do for ya. BTW, I'm currently using image #2 (top row, middle column) on the fujigas link that stuhrc posted for my wallpaper. An awesome shot imho.
  19. There are pictures and the 4 minute Geoff Aaron video on this site - Denali Torq Atak / Hench . At 140lbs and totally silent, electric sounds like a killer idea...if it could be perfected.
  20. I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I've had a hard time finding very much (if any) information regarding this topic. I know the top motocrossers get paid a LOT of money for what they do, and I guess rightly so, since they get a TON of TV and magazine coverage. That being said, I'm curious how much a professional trials rider usually makes during the course of a year. I know that there are endorsements and salaries paid by the sponsors, also what kind of money do they win at the National and International trials competitions?
  21. I actually gave bicycle trials a try at one point in my life. While I really liked the challenge and skills needed, I didn't like having to pedal in order to boost up to things. Another thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was how extremely light the bikes were. Yes, it made them very manuverable and easy to bunnyhop, but to me they're almost too light. Maybe I'm just weird?
  22. I'm normally a BMX shooter, but I've always been fascinated by Trials. When I learned of the Championships in Duluth, I knew I had to drive up there and try my hand at shooting trials...and I loved it! These were all taken on Saturday and unfortunately I had to leave for home Saturday night, so I missed the GOOD weather on Sunday. Although I didn't have a press pass, I quickly learned that I sure could get close to the action. I used a Canon EOS 10-D and mostly my Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 EX DF zoom lens, although I think 2 of the shots were taken with a 16mm f/2.8 Zenitar fisheye. Here's the link to my gallery -Observed Trials World Championships - Duluth, MN. As you go through the thumbnails, you can click on the large image (on the right) to see an even LARGER image. I uploaded a photo to this post just for the heck of it, there are about 30 more images in my gallery. BTW, I don't have a trials bike, but like I said, I've always been fascinated with it. I have a BMX-Freestyle bicycle background, so I have SOME bike handling skills, but absolutely no motorcycle skills. I have friends...who have friends that ride trials, so hopefully I'll be able to give it a try sometime soon, hopefully I'll be able to catch on, it looks like so much fun! Thanks for looking, Quad
