I really enjoyed reading about the adventures of Barry (well except for the finger one). Have you been back on the trials bike? Is your confidence returning? I saw in the "anything goes" section that you are doing a peddle bike something, so that means your not just sitting around. Come on help out those of us that live vicariously through others. Pathetic as we may be.

My friends beta evo has a braktec clutch master cylinder fitted, it's a dot 4 system. Having driven over 1000 miles from Gateshead to Encamp in Andorra for last weekends trial he was somewhat disappointed to find the cylinder was leaking. By section 6 he had no clutch but we were at this stage up by the ski lifts in Soldeu. At the lunch check another of our crew jokingly said why not top it up with the olive oil people were putting on their lunch? So he did. It worked for the rest of the day and the cylinder still had oil in at the end of the day. ?

Just been reading Andy's offer of reducing the cost of advertising. It's a really generous offer from someone who already does so much for trials. We should all continue to support TC (and trials in general) as much as we can and kep it going from strength to strength! Well done and thanks Andy!

Have a add in the wanted list for a 200 Beta Evo but having no luck finding one even increased my price range up to £4000 so what do owner riders think if i widen my choice to include a Beta 125,a Gas Gas 125 TRS would only be riding the easy sections as now in my 80s so would like more low down torque than power, let me know what you think if you have one of these bikes you want to sell let me know

Following a twenty + years sabbatical, i am feeling the need to get back into beginners trials. My previous bike (which wasnt with me for long due to some crooked thieving low life ) was a Yamaha Pinky. I'm looking for advice on the following please: Choice of bike: I am 5'10 tall and 100 kg. I have roughly £1200 to £1400 spend Having looked on the various auction sites for available bikes, i think my options are: Beta Rev, Sherco, Gas gas, Scorpa SY (similar to my previous Yam?) obviously i have no experience of these newer machines and looking for guidance. Hello all. I'm a 48 year old bloke who has fancied having a go at the old feet up game for ages. I'm from Cheshire. I'm reckoning I can get myself a useable bike for about 800 quid, a twin shock type Beamish Suzuki or a TY250 Yamaha type bike. Or whatever? Where can I learn to ride? Where can I get local advice? What's the score with these bikes, I see some are registered for the road and many are not, indeed have no lights or horn, speedo etc... I have no intention of riding it on the road so what's the score? Any advice, comments appreciated. Regards Steve.

im returning to trials after a 16yr break i was 15 last time i did a trail im now 31 and 20stone im also on a budget bikes ive been looking at are motesa 315r and late 90's-2002ish gassers because im on a budget of around £1000, ive always been a bit sceptical of betas reliability- should i be? the bikes that ive metioned above, are parts and plastics readily availible still? can you think of another bike i should look at?

I'm trying to help out a kid who recently acquired an air-cooled 2-stroke trials bike and then ran it without any oil. His father assured the kid that the bike was a 4-stroke because he found a plug that said "oil" in the engine. Of course, that was for the transmission oil! So, the kid filled the tank up with straight gas and started the bike up. After a while, he apparently became worried about the strange popping and pinging noises he said he heard coming from the cylinder. At that point he shut the engine down. My current bike is a 1972 Montesa Cota 247, it needs at least a top end rebuild and thereafter paint, tidying up and TLC. It's the first bike I brought after a 30 year break from trials my last one was a TL125s. Having ridden it a few times I reckon it's worth a proper rebuild and then kept for high days and fun. I'm therefore thinking of getting a more modern bike, one that's reliable and can be used every week, not need major maintenance and sensible enough for a complete wobbler like me to use. I'm on a budget (£1600). Any advice on what to get?

Hi everyone, I've got a problem with my rear brake. Problem is it's catching quite badly, seems to work fine but doesn't have much locking power. I'm unsure if the disc is bent or the wheel is out of true? I wouldn't have thought the caliper was seized due to the fact the brake actually works. Would it be more likely the wheel or disc at fault? Can you true trial wheels like a push bike wheel? Thanks in advance

I am thinking about trading in my 2002 250 Sherco. I am 52 years old, the wrong side of 13 stone and to be honest it's getting a bit heavy to be haulin' out of the mud. so i've narrowed it down to possibly trading it in for a 200 Beta. Has anybody done this ? Does anybody know if these are underpowered in any way ( I don't want to have to ride it like a teenager on a 125 , wind it on , drop the clutch and hang on !) Would it be a lot lighter than the Sherco and easier to ride ? Any advice would be of use so if anybody about the same age has done anything like this please let me know of your opinion . Evening all, just bought my first trials bike(2013 Beta 200) looking to improve my technical riding for enduro. Been out today for the first time and need to buy some bits so looking for advice. Levers, clutch and brake, looking for flexy levers as bent/snapped mine (Jitsie) today. Also clutch drags so am going to replace it, fitted a DP in my enduro bike, any good in a trials bike of should I buy OEM. Front mudguard any decent brands or again should I stick with OEM. Cheers

Hello, i need some advise on choosing the correct engine for a first trial bike. I have been riding MX since i was a kid and i have let say intermediate enduro skills. I was analyzing the newer models and will probably get a gasgas but cant figure out how does the different engines 250/280/300 feel like.. it looks like all of them have same stroke and the difference comes from the bore. i guess as with any other engine the bigger the piston the more power.. at first my idea was to get a 300cc, but is this stronger engine will affect the learning curve? I am 180 cm and 74 kilos and as of now i am hesitating between the 250 and 300 cc engines.. i would to improve m…

Hi Guys. I've been reading some topics on here regarding machine choice for first timers and opinions seem divided as to which one is best. So rather than ask for someone to recommend a specific make and model, my question is this. Would a year 2000 Gas Gas txt250 be suitable for a novice trial rider? I'll be competing in the 'ahem', over 40's class, and I've covered more miles on road bikes than I'd care to think about. So, what do you lot think?

Hoping for a bit of advice from those who might have had similar experience. I bought my son a TY80 a couple of years ago (just as I had when I was his age). He is 11 now. Although he has enjoyed it, he has never become very confident on it and struggles with clutch and gear shifting. I remember finding shifting difficult on my TY when I was a kid. The TY is actually quite small for him now but he still doesn't find it easy to ride. We have also had reliability issues with the TY and I don't have lots of time or enough knowledge to be fixing a servicing it all the time (and I don't particularly want to either). Hi all, I just refitted my rear wheel and set my cam tensioners to the same markings each side. The wheel doesn't look like its in the center of the swing arm how would I check that? One of the snail cams does look a little battered but wouldn't have thought it would throw it out that much? Any advice ? Thanks in advance

I’m really struggling with the sport and it’s taking me so long to get to grips with the basics it’s starting to get embarrassing. One thing I am noticing as I ride with peeps on 250 and 300cc bikes is that I have to ride my bike differently - I’m just not entirely sure what to do! What advice would you give someone riding a 125 that would differ (or even that’s the same!) as the larger CC. For example: my friends 250cc will just track up a (not particularly steep) hill with a smidge of throttle, my 125 would need more oomph at the bottom or it would be touch and go if it made it up.
