General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by jamiesam,

Hi, just getting into trials and been looking for a beta evo 200. I am struggling to find a 200 but plenty of 250's. Am I biting off more than I can chew if I went for a 250 as opposed to the 200? What's the general feeling of the 200. Don't have any trials experience, but have 6 years road/sports bike experience and limited motocross/enduro experience.

Some time in the not so distant future if things go to plan, our club in the rockless flat and muddy Milton Keynes will have a small parcel of land on a 25 year lease. Hopefully there will be the importation of serious quantities of various rocks etc. Consequently we would love to hear what your favourite section is/would be. The area is not that big so very long rocky gullies would limit the total number of sections, and graded hillclimbs are not really viable. Help!

Contemplating a move to South America. Are there any resources / forums / etc. that would help me determine what Trials communities exist in the various countries?

Anyone know where I can get hold of a pair of Dunlop Fork Stickers, black background, yellow writing? There used to be a guy on ebay that did them, but haven't been any on there for a while.

Posted this in the Montesa forum (since that is what I have) but since it's generic to many brands figured I'd post it here too for some more exposure. The spring preload side (left side), what is the base setting? The Manual talks about "turning" it, what direction? I pulled up the tech docs directly from Formula and it says: "Our advice is to start leaving the adjuster in middle position (you can reach the standard position by screwing it completely and unscrewing it 5 turns). After this, you can try to modify the preload, turning the governor one turn at a time, in way to feel every possible little change." My hunch is CCW is less and CW is more? Base…

  9. I have some plastic fenders that are scratched up pretty good. I've seen these plastic repair/restore kits advertised in bike/dirt bike magazines that show super results. Has anyone tried these and how well do they work?

Hi would anyone have a barrel for a 2002 gas gas txt 50 boy thanks

  11. I believe the wheelie is very important to practice as it give's you an understanding of the power of the engine and when it come's in on the throttle. This has helped me in trial's when you come to a section and have to give sudden power to get over something, rider's either give it to much or not enough that tell's me they don't have the feel of there throttle and the power of there engine.

So here's a naive question that has been niggling away in my head for a while. Why are trials tyres the way they are? Is there a rule somewhere that bans MX or enduro tyres? Or has years of experience led to conventional trials tyres being the best for the job? I occasionally watch an X-Trial video and wonder why no-one has tried a slick tyre.

Hi folks, there is a couple of sections of circular concrete pipe at the bottom of my road which I have been attempting when i've been a bit bored, I am having trouble with one, which to me doesn't look to hard but it is only the odd occasion that I get up it.... The section of pipe is at a thirty degree angle (under cut) and the top edge sits 3 - 3.5 ft above the flat run up and it is about a bikes lenth in diameter on top (just enough to get the bike on and stop) oh and it has been filled with concrete so it is flat on top. Now the way I have been trying it is: Flat run up, open throtle and dump clutch to get the front wheel on top, dip the clutch and compress rea…

Has it always been so hard for a talented rider to get sponsorship ?. I see posts were very good riders can't afford to attend the world events because it's way beyond there means, is the profit margin for factory, importer, dealer so close to the bone that the best a top rider can hope for, is a loan of a bike and/or help with expenses if lucky. I see some think the cost of a new bike is too much, on the other hand I hear the profit margin is so small that, people in the business to make a living, are struggling to keep afloat. I may be wrong, but it seemed to me twenty years ago the shops had more lad's out on the hill with a bit of sponsorship, the importer coul…

I have a pair of Hebo boots that are not too old. Unfortunately I have damaged one of the ratchet strap tie buckle things that go around the calf. This would be an easy repair as you just pull one out and feed a new one in. Can somebody point me in the direction where I could acquire a new one from ? Thanks

well firstly can't beleive no one has made a comment about the sad retirement of joanne coles which to me was a bit of a shock to loose what i thought was maybe our best future chance of a world title.knowing a couple of the top girls quite well i know there's little if any money to be earn't ,but done the right way they must be able to make a reasonable living,i can't beleive that after success at the tdn that none of the magazines targeted at the younger male audience approached them ,you would think young women on motorbikes would be a pr companys dream and with that would come bigger sponsers and money.just look at jessica ennis or victoria pendleton both now must hav…
