General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

I have a Beta Rev-3 2004 and currently use Putoline Light Gear Oil in the Gearbox (As recommended by my local dealer). Somebody at ESTC has told me to try Putoline Super DX4 10/40 instead, which is about a 25% of the price of Putoline Light Gear Oil. He uses it in his Gas Gas TXT 2003 Gearbox and was told it would be okay by a Dealer. I am aware that DX4 is techically a 4 Stroke Gear Oil. Has anybody got any experience with DX4 in place of Light Gear Oil? I dont want to save a few quid on Oil, if its going to cause we problems at a later date (Gearbox,Seal, Clutch failure ETC) Kev OC

Hi guys. Appart from the std trailers or vans, what brackets etc have you guys built for your bikes? I just finished (still needs paint and tie down struts) today. I hve been putting the bike on the back but being a relatively new dad, I need the bin for packing space. If you have time, please show me the rigs you are using. Thanks.

Okay, a pet peeve People posting videos on here or on You Tube with a sound track that does not let you hear how the bike is running in the section! Why do they pick some piece of music that totally drowns out the sound of the bike running. If I wanted to hear music or that particular music I will go play a CD or down load it from I Tunes. By doing this they force you to listen to a style of music that is in many cases obnoxious. Keep the damn music of the video and let us hear and see the bike run! Okay rant over with! BillyT

Sorry to stretch this one into 2 forums, but I didn't think many people would read it where it started, in "Beta: Merry Christmas". Is it really true that the AMA has insisted on long-sleeved shirts for trials competition? I have serious reservations about joining an organization that would spend my dues to pay lawyers to fight mandatory helmet laws(I never have joined). So, not only does the AMA fight mandatory helmet laws WHILE imposing mandatory helmet rules at their events, but now they are insisting on LONG SLEEVES?!?!? So, are they for safety or against it? Or are they for it when it's THEIR insurance; and for "freedom" when it's somebody else's insurance? …

We'd been riding for a good couple of hours when events started to take what would eventually turn out to be a worrying and dangerous turn: Steve: "Ian, your bike sounds funny mate." Ian: "Funny? In what way?" Steve: "Like it's overheating or summat." Terry: "It's not squirting steam or anything but summat's definitely up. Better head back to the van and take a look." 10 minutes later: Steve: "Ian, there's no bloody coolant in here! When did you last check it?" Ian: "Errrmmm..." Mocking and hilarity ensues (approx. 5 minutes). Steve: "So, anyone got any water?" Terry: "I've got some in the truck. Here we go, let's fill 'er up." One litre of fluid is now dumped …
