Hi all, I realise this question gets asked alot and I don't want this to turn into a 'my bikes better than you bike' slagging match. I've always fancied trying trials and now I'm a bit older and have a bit of cash I figure why not? The decision I have to make is 'what bike to get'? We don't get many Montesa's down here in Oz so that pretty much rules them out but I was advised on another forum to look seriously at a 200cc bike as they improve your skill level and are good to learn on as you do the work not the bike. I'm 6 ft 4 and about 15 st, would a 200 be enough for somebody of my size? We also suffer from a lack of bikes down here when compared to the UK so can any…

Non trials rider wondering if the ledge/rock in the following pics would make a good practice rock. It is actually in the middle of a 120 unit apartment complex that i run. I also live on site and keep my bikes on site. The one thing i wonder about is I would have to be nice to the lawn areas around the ledge. I'm wondering how the grass might stand up or if i'd get bored because i would have to be easy on the grass and couldn't really utilize the area. 2nd pic is a little bigger to get a better idea of the rock A little over exposed but the face on this side is about 2 foot sheer. Total height of rock is about 3 1/2 maybe 4 foot from the pavement Rock has several 1 t…

Do you have any good Ideas for cutting edges on a tire/sharpening? I keep looking at the electric fish filet knives at Walmart, anybody tryed one? The tire cutting tools I see sold on the various world wide web stores look like they are for off road 4x4 truck tires. sam

who has some experience with these helmets? Trials helmets are very rare in the states. You can't ride down to the local dealer and try some on. I recently got an nzi through the mail and am wondering about the fit. My head measures right on the border between large and medium. I went with the large because I tried on a road bike helmet that was a large and it was a little tight. So I get this nzi and the thing is huge. I put it on and I look like kazoo from the jetsons. It looks way too big. However it fits kinda snug on my head. If i move it front to back it seems to hold my head pretty well. If i wobble it side to side it seems to rock on my head a bit, i.e. helmet is…

Is there a nack to removing the tyre? I've a puncture and want to fix it, I tried getting the tyre off today and it didn't want to budge, I was only using small 8-10" levels that I use on the enduro bike, do I need to get the 2' car tyre levers out??

I have 2 new Dunlop D803 Tubeless tires and it seems impossible to mount these without tearing the bead.. It appears that they are just a tad undersized. Has anybody else had any isses with the D803 and getting them mounted without ruining portions of the bead area? I have installed dozens if Michelins without issues but this is my 1st Dunlop and I am struggling.. Just curious as if anybody else has had issues with this tire? Thanks

Hi, I'm looking to start trial long time ago, so I 'm ready now to buy a bike and learn this nice sport. So, I called some shop and I have different opinion for a first bike and that is not easy for the choice. One shop say me to start with a 125 and the other with a 250, for remember, I m 35 years old, 1m77 for 65 kg and did some trial with bicycle when I was young, some cross with bad memory ( lot of power and control was... Not very fine) and some ride with Ducati on the road. The deal is take pleasure to riding, only trial, learn the basic, slow wheelie, jump on rock.. But with smooth move, I don't want to ride with fear like my 250 Cr Honda.. W…

On another part of this site (engine temps 2 v 4 strokes & why do they seem to run hotter) Woody ventured to say he thought the engine fitted to Nigel Birketts TYZ special was his favourite trials motor by far. Just why is it considered so good, I also recall reading (possibly a quote from Mr. Birkett) though I cannot remember that the engine fitted to his ex-works Suzuki was also very good, was the comparison being made with machines or bikes available at the same time as themselves or those both 2 & 4 stroke currently available.

Hi all.Completley new to the trial scene.Just looking for some advice I’ve got a gas gas jtx just to practice on and learn before I get something newer. The foot pegs slope down towards the floor slightly on the end furthest away from the bike is this normal or should they be level.also is there any easy way to get the four bolts out of the clutch cover.ive tried giving the heads a tap but they are seized solid.Only reason I want to get to the clutch is it’s a bit heavy when i have to slip it in tight situations. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all, I have ridden my 2020 GasGas 280 for about 50 hours and the rear brake became less effective with squeaking noise. The brake pads seem to have life left. I would appreciate your thought about it. Should I change the pads? Or brake fluid? Or clean the surface of the pads and disc? thanks,

I would have guessed a 300 made well over 20 but it's not even close. The graphs show how differently trials-specific engines are tuned compared to their MX and Enduro cousins. And given these numbers, it seems crazy how 300's are often considered to be too much for the average rider.
