Hi all, I'm a complete novice with no trials bike experience. I do have years of bike riding experience, riding an R6 on the road and Iv'e had a play around on my sons moto x bikes in the past. I'm 49, short and fairly light (about 11 stone after eating all the xmas food). I won't go on and bore you, but I'm looking at 2 bikes fairly local. (south coast) most appear to be in wales, midlands or north, so here's the dilemma. I either spend a day travelling and spend £120 on fuel or I look locally. I have seen 2 bikes, both at the same address, locally. They are a gasgas 280 TXT Pro 2002 model, and a Beta Rev 3 2006 model. The beta needs rear wheel bearings, but I'm more…

Hi, i am new to the sport of trials bikes and need a little advice. After sifting through ebay and local dealers i have a short list of two models. . . A 2004 beta rev 3 270 or a sherco 290 of the same year. The sherco is a lot cheaper and i don't understand why. Does the sherco have reliability issues whereas the beta is a more bomb proof motor. Any advice or pointers are greatly appreciated. Many thanks

please can i have your opinion on beta or sherco 125, i am 12 years old but only weigh 6 stone wet through but i am tall, i have had so many different stories from other people that i am really undecided about which bike to go for next. I have heard that the beta 125 is heavier than the sherco, do you think sherco would suit a small lad better.

  7. I've seen loads of these threads and didn't want to start another but after reading them I didn't find an answer as my requirements are a bit unusual. I have tendon issues in my hands that cause pain and once inflamed can cause trigger finger. This can make clutch control less precise than it could be, but provided I don't ride too frequently or have to work the clutch excessively it's manageable. Although it was only a minor inconvenience on the day my left hand has not yet fully recovered from last Sunday so I've decided not to ride today. I've only done one trial so perhaps I need more bike time before I can make an informed decision on what bike to buy next but wh…

My son is 12 years old, almost 13. He is 4 feet 10 inches and around 75 pounds. He is small-framed but reasonably athletic. Plays soccer. He's been riding a clutched CRF80 for a couple of years and is a pretty good bicycle trials rider. I ride trials and have a GasGas 300. We are looking for a trials motorcycle for him and would like to get the correct machine. I have come across a 2003 GasGas80 for a good price. I haven't seen this bike and don't know anything about it but I think it is a full-size machine, in which case it is the same size as my 300Pro. Standing on the pegs his waist is just barely above the level of the handlebars. So what is the 'right' bike for my s…

Our club has decided to buy a bike so that the kids that show interest can have a go. The idea is that they can borrow it 3 times, after that they should have an idea if they will pester Dad to death for thier own bike or take up stamp collecting, But: WHICH BIKE SHOULD WE BUY? The choices are: A) mini trials with 14 to 15 inch wheels or B ) 3/4 size bikes with 17 to 18 inch wheels or perhaps C) something with a smaller frame but full size wheels Which model do you feel is the best for the most kids. Remember this bike wont be a compition bike but something to give them a qualified introduction to Trials, but them again some of them may never have ridden a bike bef…

I'll be buying a trials bike soon and hoped I might get some good advice here before making my final choice. I'm a seasoned enduro/off-road racer of more than 30 years. I'm 48 years old (yesterday) stand 6'4" and weigh 180 lbs. with no gear. To date, I've been thinking Gas Gas 280 or 321, and will likely settle on a late model, used bike. First off, is there any particular brand that's any better suited for taller riders? Aside from the obvious condition of a bike, are there any "trials specific" issues to check for when inspecting a used trials bike? Besides dealer support, what other factors should I take into consideration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  12. Hi my son is looking for a new ish bike 2012-onwards. He's been riding a ty175 and is very proficient on that and also on my rev3 270. Im looking for advice on size and make if possible, he obviously goes for looks but i would rather him have a bike that is reliable and good to ride. There is no intention to ride on the road so I was thinking 125-200. He's looking at purchase on HP via me of course. All ideas welcome. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm after advice on which trials bike to get for my son. He is 10 years old (fairly tall for his age) and new to bikes. Would a Gas Gas TXT 80 be suitable? Thanks for any advice.

  14. Hello all, i am about to buy a new trials bike, i have been getting interested in trials over the last couple of years, i am not new to riding off road bikes but i am to trials. Anyway i dont want to part with my hard earned if the quality of build is not of a high standard so at this stage reliability and quality are the top of my list. I dont mind doing the usual top end rebuilds on the 2T, thats just expected maintainance, but i dont want to buy anything that lets me down in areas of the engine that i dont expect to fix and that goes beyond reasonable cost. Basically i dont like the throwaway product theory i would rather pay more for satisfying & enjoyable ownersh…

Hi I'm 12 years old and want to get into trials. I've been riding motocross bikes since I was 6, but am not sure what type of trials bike to get. I'm looking for a bike with good build quality and a bike which I would have a lot of control on, Ideally for no more than £3000.00, does anyone know anything good.

After changing my oil today i quickly came to realise how much easier it would be with a bike stand. I have looked at the type that goes under the bash plate, but then the sump is covered ??? the other type i seen is the ones that goes under the swing arms but that one doesnt seem as if it will be much good at a trial on the grass??? Just wondering which you use and good or bad points you find with each type before i buy mine. cheers

  19. Hi Guys, Ive got a dilemma regarding what bike to buy. I stopped riding maybe 10 years ago but up until then had ridden since I was 13 at a reasonable level. Im now 36! Last bike I rode was a Ty250 mono (early one!). Before that I was old school Ty 80 and 175 and a couple of fantics. I have a budget of

  20. Started by sir dabs alot,

Hi all! After riding a Gas Gas for my last two bikes and an older model Sherco as my first, I'm considering a different rig for my next bike. Here's my opinion of current model bikes after taking short rides on each; I love the way the GG handles and turns. I never really had any mech. problems with mine. It doesn't seem as stable going over things as my Sherco did. My clutch adjustment was pretty finicky. The rear shocks seem to get sacked out feeling easily. The Montesas felt wide and the power delivery was a little more sudden and abrupt than I expected (not necessarily a bad thing). The price is really out my range though. Coming off of logs, etc. felt very much …
