General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by MrGman,

Hi Folks I've always fancied getting into trials but never really got round to buying a bike, I currently ride road bikes and enduro, I particularly enjoy hard enduro side of the sport. I've been keeping an eye out for a while now and i've spotted a 2020 Sherco ST250, from reading on the forum I'm definitely looking for a 250 or under, but are Sherco's newbie friendly, I'm guessing all the brands are going to be much of a muchness for a beginner? Anything specific to lookout for on this model? I'm happy to look at other brands if something is better suited, I only refined my search to sherco as i like the colour scheme TIA

  3. I thought I'd pass on a bit of wisdom about riding a trials bike with a fan. And most trials bikes these days have a radiator, fan and cooling system. When I was riding my Gas Gas hard during competition of course things would heat up. Sometimes you don't have time to look down and see if your fan on your bike is running. So what I did was paint a white dot on every other fan blade on the part of the blade facing you as you look in at it. Then when the fan is running you will see a white line in the center of the fan while it's spinning and you will know right away that your fan is on and working. So you are riding and focused on the sections. You don't want to worry at a…

Do the trials brands all manufacturer their own engines in house? Or do certain brands share engines, common parts, etc?

Hi You have probably heard this before but my 2003 txt pro 300 is starting, running and riding ok but every now and again usually at the wrong moment the throttle sticks, a quick blip of the throttle usually clears it. The cable doesn't seem to be snagging on anything, only thing I have noticed is I took the slide out and it is worn an both corners of the rounded side. Will this be causing the sticky throttle. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas.

What is best way to remove this seal please?

  7. Started by CaptainBob,

Jitsie sells these sleeves that Cover the inner tube portion of the forks. and the seals. Intent being to keep dust, mud and other debris from messing with the fork seals potentially creating leaks. It seems like a good idea but, I notice the pro's do not have them on their bikes. Does anyone have any thoughts on these sleeves? Good idea? Bad idea? Any and all thoughts are most appreciated.

  8. I’m really struggling with the sport and it’s taking me so long to get to grips with the basics it’s starting to get embarrassing. One thing I am noticing as I ride with peeps on 250 and 300cc bikes is that I have to ride my bike differently - I’m just not entirely sure what to do! What advice would you give someone riding a 125 that would differ (or even that’s the same!) as the larger CC. For example: my friends 250cc will just track up a (not particularly steep) hill with a smidge of throttle, my 125 would need more oomph at the bottom or it would be touch and go if it made it up.

ago Hello all, I’m thinking about buying a second hand trials bike. I think I’m going to go for a Beta rev 3. The rear fender looks like it could be easily damaged, especially with myself riding.New replacement rear fenders seem to be unobtainable for the earlier models. What are people doing when they break their rear fender to replace it if it can’t be repaired? Cheers

Hi Everyone 2023 is going to be over soon. Anyone got any new news on Jotagas or Jgas motorcycles? Trials or Enduro? I know a guy who owns an early Enduro 300 bike.

  14. Started by cjard,

Bought a Sherco that seems to be fitted with 40mm marzocchis but I'm not sure what the oil level should be. I did find a good reference site but I'm not sure what model of forks I have. The markings I see on the bottom of the fork legs are: M = looks like marzocchi logo 05 (in a circle with 12 segments) = manufacture date? MA130 = ? 1039 = --- Same M and 05 on the other leg but then MA131 = ? 1040 = ? Do these help identify the specific model of fork? There are loads of different model names listed for 2005 on http://marzocchiworkshop.blogspot.com/p/oil-quantitys-and-levels_858.html?m=1

hi, why GasGas doesn't recommend gear oil with full specs like e.g. 75W90 but they do only 75W ? is that second part doesn't matter or what? I managed to get actually oil with just 75W specs but I got also 75W90 and wonder which one to use

  16. Looking for some new bikes opinion thoughts. Intermediate rider looking for a new bike. Past have only been on GG but open to other brands. Live in NC. Prefer a 250 or tamed 300. 2022 Scorpa 300 - very light use, flywheel weights. Is this the same bike essentially as the Sherco below? “Cheapest” option. 2022 Scherco ST 250 Factory - found a dealer with a leftover bike heavily discounted. $1k over the used Scorpa above. 2023 Beta Evo 250 Factory - not a fan of left kick start, never ridden one. Can get this for about $500 over the Sherco. 2023 GG TXT 250 GP - can get this for about $500 more than the Beta above. Heard since KTM take over some possib…

Hi . Has anyone had a problem with a 300 gas gas stuck in 1st gear .

  18. Started by Ian589,

I've got a old 1999 Bultaco Sherco 2.5 not been used in a few years but the fan doesn't seem to cut in. I've tested the fan separately and know that that works, I've also bypassed the temperature sensor but still the fan doesn't work. Apart from the fan not working everything else seems fine, although a little difficult to start (it's a Sherco so expected) it runs fine. Any help appreciated. Ian.

  19. I went to start my '21 TRS RR 300 (120 hours engine time) today and found it was jammed. Weird, as it was running fine yesterday right up until I stopped it and put it away. I'd just checked the coolant the day before and it was still correct level so I was comfortable it hadn't cooked from lack of water. I also knew 100% that I had oil in the fuel - 140ml to 13L as I've used all along. I had heard a slight and intermittent rattle for about the first minute while it warmed up, but couldn't identify where it came from. I tried the screwdriver to the ear trick over parts of the engine and it didn't sound like it was coming from anything I listened to. I pulled off …
