Hello Everyone, it must be 15 years since I last rode my Gollner Honda TLR250 mono but it still sits in my garage teasing me every time I go in and talk to my other love (no not the fridge full of beer!), a 1989 Audi quattro. Anyway, bike is part way through a rebuild and so is the rider and I hope to get back out into the streams and woods of rural Aberdeenshire in the not too distant future now I class for the over 40s group! As a quick introduction, I started trialling when I was 10 and worked up to expert by the late 80s' when I stopped. We used to hold Scottish Championship rounds on my parents farm near Inverurie with around 140 riders but when they retired from …

Hi there. I first rode in trials in my teens. I was pretty crap, but I loved it. In my 20s I went scrambling. In my 30s I went hillclimbing. In my 40s I was still hillclimbing In my 50s I tried classic trials on a Cub. In my 60s I started greenlaning. I also bought a Montesa 4ride. That encouraged me to try Long Distance Trials. I love those and now on the eve of my 70s I am thinking of trying club trials again. How easy are Bradford Club trials? Am I making a big mistake?

Hi all Just a quick intro and question. After a looong time away from off road bikes I have just purchased a gasgas 300 in a vain attempt to regain some mid 40's fitness !! looking forward to getting out and about. Quick question - the VIN no on my bike starts VTRTG - when i checked the bike out, all the sites I have found list GasGas trials bike frame numbers starting with VTRGG not VTRTG. Has anyone else got a TG VIN number - or knows what it means?? Many thanks Adam

Hey all, Greying beard, rode lots of dirt bikes and some motocross over the years, not a pro by any means, just riding for fun. Always wanted to ride trials... Been reading this forum for a while trying to gain some knowledge about purchasing a used trials bike. Being in Canada, trials bikes are few and far between, and I didn't want to spend too much to get into trials at this point. I finally found an older Beta Rev3 250, 2001 for a low enough price, it was probably more used for trail riding before though but seems in reasonable condition otherwise. While I have numerous questions...lol... I will reserve those for future posts and use…

Hi all. Well, at the age of 57 I finally get the opportunity to have a bash in the world of trials! (I think). Always been fascinated by the sport and love everything to do with off-road. I’ve been a road rider for 40 years and have only limited off-road experience with 2 sessions at Mick Extances enduro school in Wales and one go at ‘Trials Day’ which I thoroughly enjoyed. I’ve always wanted a trials bike but could never really decide how to make it work for me. I don’t have a garage or workshop so the maintenance side would be tricky (and a faff), plus, I never knew anywhere I could ride or practice so always put a purchase off. I’ve since however discovered th…

  9. Hi all, looking for some serious help here please. my father has been riding trials bikes for a few years(50 odd to be precise) mostly unit Bsa and Bultacos 199A etc. in a bid to have an easier day, less maintenance, lighter bike he would like to move to something newer. not bothered what make at all montesa, sherco, beta, really do not care, what he does struggle with is the speed at which everything happens, hydraulic clutches, brakes that really work, speed/sharpeness of acceleration etc etc. he has borrowed a 2001 montesa 315, works very well and he seems to like it, however it is too quick!!!. some of this we accept we cannot change and it will be perseverance.…

Hello to all . I have currently just bought a new off road Chinese ( clone Honda 250 ) from a dealer on eBay . The bike needs to be registered it is insured on the vin no and is fully loaded with lights , speedo , horn etc . The dealer is reluctant to to give me nova reference so I can continue on to DVLA .I am in touch with HMRC but all seamed to haven’t stalled. The dealer is quoting it is for off-road use only , but surely import tax must have been paid and that’s all I need as proof. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Hi All, This is by way of introducing myself because I'm computer stupid and can't get the "Introduce yourself" feature to work. I'm a soon to be ex road racer and am looking for a new hobby more in keeping with my advanced years. I've always fancied gently tweaking an MZ 250 to make a slightly more tractable road bike. Now whilst I've done more then my fair share of tuning various two strokes to go road racing on, I suddenly realise I know nothing about how to extract "bottom end" grunt like modern trials bike have in abundance nor how to get "mid range" tractability plus reasonable performance like modern motocross bikes develop. So here I am asking for advice fro…

Hi, my name is Tod, and after 40 years of being without a trials bike, I'm now back in the fold. I've never been without at least 1 road bike and recently managed to blag a long term loan of a Montesa 349, of the type I used back in the day. Been fettling with it to get it running after being laid up for at least 2 years. And now it starts 1st kick and idles sweet. Just have to figure out the other big issue..... Poxy thing is stuttering in wide throttle openings. No power. I'll be scouring this site for solutions to this problem, and probably solutions to problems I don't know about yet.

Hi All, Thank you for allowing me to sign up to this forum. I have been riding and racing (enduro's, MX and road racing) bikes a good part of my life but have just picked up my first trials bike. I have gotten a bit older (75) and figure it is time to really learn how to ride a bike. lol I recently picked up a 2023 Gas Gas 300 TXT Racing. I certainly will not be anywhere near the likes of Tony Bou but I am having fun. I reside in the northeast area of the US. I look forward to learning much from this forum.

While i have been looking at some you tube vids on technique does anyone know anyone in the area that might do some formal or one-off skills tutoring. Any help appreciated. Cheers everyone.

Hi guys and gals who competed in the trial at Church Stretton today, hope you all got back to your vans with your bikes. for those reading this the police were in the area of the trial today checking the legality of riders machines and confiscating those not legal, ready for the crusher I guess. Something for all riders to think about with the police having the power to take away your machine!!! May be its time to move away from road trials to private land events for british sidecar champs rounds then we would not have to put our bikes in the vans to go each group.
