    Another Issue...

i have yet another issue! I'd given the carb a good clean out and blown out the air filter and given it a fresh coat of air filter oil so thought i'd fire it up quickly. started after a few kicks which is what i expected what with the carb cleaner etc and then i can't remember if i turned the choke off and it began to rev or it just began to rev. anyway it ended up on full revs..no kill switch! couldnt stall it (bike leapt out the garage, not my best idea to be honest. so i just pulled the carb off which killed it. stood it all back up, out carb back on and warily started it, after a few kicks (and one kickback/backfire)it started with the choke, i flicked the choke off and the revs started to rise a bit again. left choke on and took it for a ride around the driveway, stopped and stuck choke off, revs were still a bit high but better, twisted one of the screws in the carb and it seemed to slow idle down (just wondering whether i've changed air/fuel mix - which screw is which?!) basically i'm just wondering what caused it?! the throttle cable was free, i unscrewed the throttle before putting the carb back on to make sure no issues there and couldn't see anything wrong so put it all back together, seemed to be fine after that :S

    Flywheel Play...

can you give me a brief run down of what would be needed done.. i.e. would I'd need to remove engine, top end apart, split cases?? replace bearings, balance crank?? cheers

    Flywheel Play...

thanks. the bearing price is irrelevant as my dad works for a bearing company rather handily! so i assume it's possible to buy seals seperately? Also how hard is it to do? split cases job or..?

    Flywheel Play...

as some of you may already know i've just bought a '97 beta techno 250. It's my first trials bike after a few years riding enduro, and had a quick play on it tonight and rather enjoyed it! pulls well, hopping over rocks etc! thought i'd give it a good service so got carb off, going to do oil, calipers are both coming off etc I took the side casing off and there is a bit of play in the flywheel :s I've heard on some bikes this is normal? I don't know whether it is excessively vibey or not as I've only just bought the bike and the engine is so vastly different from the ktm's I'm used to i can't tell if it's rattly or not to be honest! (went to a trial last week and they all sounded rattly!! just wondering if it's main bearings? or if it's just normal play? cheers
  6. Cheers very useful thank you! i've taken the air filter out, and carb off and cleaned that, front caliper is off, back one isn't yet, just awaiting some fluid for it! but getting there with it
  7. Hello! just bought a 97 (advertised as a 98 but had gold forks, dougie lampkin rep and says 1997 world champion on the side...) needs a few bits doing to it... what number wheel bearings does it need? (fronts and rears) what type of engine oil..? how do i remove the air filter, seems to have two thick rubber rings holding it down? radiator cap is below the fuel cap and it seems to be a bit loose, is it just bolted to the frame under the 'seat' plastic?? front brake is pretty awful so going to service that the clutch is pretty stiff too! is this standard on tehnos? it's not overly stiff just nowhere near as light as an 07 sherco i rode recently.. but i'm more used to enduro bikes so if it is normal it isn't an issue think thats it! for now at least! any advice or regular issues with them would be much appreciated cheers!
  8. cheers, thats sort of what I expected! I don't mind having to sort a few issues with the bike, and I can get any bearings for free so stuff like that isn't an issue. I may up my budget a little though, is it worth going to some local trials or will most bikes there be newer more expensive ones?
  9. Hi, I've ridden enduro for a couple of years and then had to sell my beloved ktm when I went to uni, now I'm home for summer and after a nearly 2 year break I fancy a cheap trials bike just to play on. preferably want to spend as little as possible (up to 600) so I realise this limits it a lot but seen a couple of (already sold) bikes about. Just wondering if any of you lot know of any. preferably in yorkshire as well! Cheers
