  1. The way I do sums, 5 litres of fuel to 80ml twostroke oil is not 2%, it's 1.6%.

If you leave the oil out altogether, it'll soon stop smoking.

    <_< your joking...right..... <_<

as far as doing the maths is concerned.... my measuring vessel and the bottle of ipone two stoke says 5L needs 80ml to give 2%....ive never tried to work it outive just gone with what it says...

so, sherco say 2%..... what does that relate to in ml of two stroke oil... and aprart from their reccomendations, how much does any one else run their bike on ...?

  2. Sounds like you are leaking coolant past the Orings in the head.

    that sounds bad...........

just had the mains done and its running sweet as a nut.....well, till today.... just that slight top end knock... i dont know what "piston slap" sounds like, but it would be a good description of the sound thats happening... ??? its just like one "click/knock" when i blip the throttle, as i say, when the revs are at there highest peak.......

when the big ends were done about two months ago, the head end was removed complete and didnt get broken down so im not sure what the condition is in there....

would replacing the o rings in the head be a big job or just a case of stripping it down and replacing the o rings ?? im not sure whats involved..would this be the same thing as a head gasket being gone ?

also, the smoke coming from the exhaust was deffo like burning oil...it stunk....

  3. ive packed in smoking but it seems my bikes taken up the habit.... :stoned:

at todays trial, things didnt seem right.....

1st problem was when i blipped the throttle i could here what i would describe as a knock ?? sound like one knock, just as the revs got upto there highest point.... any idea's...?

2nd problem, the tail pipe began to smoke a bit.... this gradually got worse to the point where it was stinking, smoking and a bit concerning to say the least....hahhaa

im guessing ive got my fuel mixture too rich... however i am running at sherco's reccomended 2% (5litres of fuel to 80ml twostroke oil)

my guess is.... for the 1st problem, the fuel i used today was arounf 6-7 weeks old..... perhaps combustion was not at its best, 2nd problem with the smoke, again, the crap fuel and maybe too much two stroke oil......

any advice is welcome...also, will i need to clean out the exhaust at the manifold and the silencer ? if so, i can see how to get at the manifold area but the silencer seems to be a sealed unit ? any idea's ???

  4. I've only had the bike a week and it was like that when I got it so I will have a go at stripping it down.

    I've ordered one from splat.

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated.

yes mate, was gonna reccomend spaltshop to you, but i can see your sorted.... :icon_salut:

  5. Rear brake pedal (solid one-piece),

Rear brake caliper (not flush with the swing-arm),

No plastic heat shield on the exhaust silencer,

Front brake caliper (looks like a double piston instead of a quad),

Blue 2001 colour-scheme and graphics on the tank and the rear mud-guard??!!

    I can't be 100% sure just about 95% ?

    hahahh fair do's......

wasnt questioning it, just curious as im not clued up enough to tell the difference, but now youve pointed it out im on the ball...hahahaha

    :icon_salut:

  6. HaHa it's a credit to you.

Obviously the best part of it are the Trials UK Stickers. Good Lad!

yes i feel the need to adorn it with some more stickers... any shops bods on here feel like donating any let me know ...

oh, and thanks for the kind words....

well, we made a class bike rack, now this trailer...

wonder what i can make next......???

  7. yes, looking at it, good idea.... some more checker [plate on that back section just before the wheel drop ins could prove usfull... i suppose i could even fashion some more tie downs etc and secure fuel can and tool box on there to save stinking the car out... ??? then again, i supose the idea was to make it lighter !

ill have a look this week end at the posibilities for the lighting etc....

cost.....well.......... thats hard to answer.... it cost me a grundfos central heating pump and a randal 103 timer out of my van...hahahaha i fixed a freinds heating for him, he builds narrow boats/ barges etc and it a top welder with heaps of left over bits of steel lying round.....so, thats the way things work round here....never pay for anything. :icon_salut: tell a lie, ive spent 50p on pop rivets !!!! hahaha

i designed it, and helped with its fabrication... i stripped my old trailer down, painted this new one, fitted checker plate, lights, mudguards etc..... he did the welding.......... top bit of team work....hahahha

i reckon it would have cost around 180 - 200 quid in bits...suspension, wheels, hitch, muddys, steel, checker, lights etc etc

didnt take long to make either..... we had fun anyhoo..... :guinness:

ive told him that this is somthing trials riders would want but as far as i know, cant buy....

ill get a pic up of the wheel dollys we're making to slot into the frame and stand it up on end to wheel down the side of the garage.... then it'l be just frickin ace !!! hahaha

as a last thing on the wish list....id love to stick a smart set of mini wheels or somthing on it !!...not sure what would fit tho...?

so, for curiosity, given the fact it would cost aprox 200 quid to make.... how much would anyone be pre-pared to pay for one ? ghgc

the pictures dont really do it much justice to be fair and, my parts are canabalised off my old existing trailer...imagine how good it wood look if all the parts were new  my oh my, the ocd's kickin in again.....hahhaha

  8. thanks ..

im made up with it too...hahhaha far out done what i thought i could with it anyway ! hahahah

yep, ill have a look for a little sqaure no plate......

ill laso get a pick of it with a bike loaded on.....

  9. It looks really easy to store , only problem I can see is that the bike/bikes wheels will cover the number plate & lights ?

yes i know.... a slight glitch i guess...was gonna put the light board on the bikes when they're loaded... but couldnt wait hahah and fitted the light board just to see what its like.....hahhaha

however, i am considering an updated electics version where i hard wiire the lights in on the mudguards or somthing, but that wont get round the number plate issue ???

ah well, back to the drawing board on that one...hahaha

as for storgae, yes, its very small and easy... i can pich it up but theres still a fair bit of wight in it, espesh with that whopping jocky wheel...

but, im making two legs with casters on wich will slot into the end of the box section and allow me to stand it up on end and wheel it down the side of the garage........

    lovely jubley.....:)

  10. Looks great, nice work.

Does it work with more than one bike? Be nice to see pics with it loaded!

    Graham

yeah 3 bikes.....two outside ones face forward, one in the middle facing backwards....... or, if you have just the one bike on it will go in the middle slot facing forwards...

the loading plate it 4 foot x 6 inch so plenty on room.....

makes a great seat too for parking your arris whilst having a brew in between laps !

  11. well, as i discussed in a previous thread , ive been building a new trailer......

i had a very good one, but it was too big and heavy and i wanted a more "trials bike specific" trailer....

so, i got the angle grinder out and set to work....

stripped the original trailer down to just the axle and wheels and began again from there.....

heres what i came up with...

all newly made bar the axle and wheels, fits 3 bike very securely on it, two forwards, one backwards.....

im made up with the results and im happy for anyone to copy this as a patern for their own should they wish too...

    SNC00028.jpg

    SNC00033.jpg

this picture shows the frame in a bit more detail, before excess bits where chopped off and welding ground/clean up etc..... 2x1" box section ,i figured keeping a little of the weight would help it tow better...

    SNC00019.jpg

  12. yes bigfoot, im looking at similar designs... want to be able to get two outside bikes facing forward and one bike in centre facing backwards...... think the design on the left will allow handle bars to miss each other a bit better but design on the right would be a bit simpler to make ...

box section is what ive got, so too late to switch angle now....

my only real concern is making places for fixings/lashings.... im gonna use eye bolts but wont have the spread out stability to lash out at angles if you know what i mean.... can anyone who uses this bash plate type of tariler confirm if just ratchet straping around the seat or foot pegs and getting the bike ratcheted down onto its bash plate alone is enough to make it secure ? the front wheels will be sat in drop in's

    trailer.png

  13. well.... i thought about selling it, it did seem the obvious thing to do...... but to be honest ,the mither of advertising it and organising collection etc etc just put me off.....

if i sold it, i reckon at best it could fetch 300 quid, but when i weighed up the cost of building a decent one from scratch, the parts would cost at least 150 quid or maybe more for decent gear..... so for the sake of making a hundred quid or so, i couldnt be @rsed..... at the end of the day, i just wanted a better trailer, not to fussed about making a buck on it.... :)

so, with apathy set in, and an angle grinder just in the garage it seemed the better option to get stuck in and have a bit of fun in the "man cave" (garage)hahahha

so, i chopped it to death...hahhaha (will get a photo up)but, its still boddy heavy with just an axle and wheels....

ive took some measurements and im ready to start the rebuild...... 2x1" box section should do it, well, thats whats lying around at my mates gaff so thats what we're using ! hahaha

going for a block above the axle to sit bash guards on and then front wheel drop in's for stability......

will get the finished thing posted when its done....

  14. I had this happen on my sherco with a standard 'yamaha type' kill switch. There is a little black seal around the yellow button that breaks with age and lets water in . I changed mine for a new one (yamaha type) and it cured the problem !!

    Phil

ill order one this weekend.... mine is black square with red square button....

  15. right guys...........

ive got a 2-3 bike trailer, its very well/professionally built etc etc..proper job for any kind of bike, probably even road bikes at a push.... but it weighs a ton ! i cant move it around as much as id like to for storage etc....

after seeing a few really smart chopped up ,trials bike specific bike trailers i think its time to get the angle grinder out............

im gonna chop it back to a rollin' chassis and go from there..... the best ones ive seen have a block/platform sat above the axle for the bash plate to sit on then, towards the front end, some kind of tray for one wheel to sit in, leaving the other simply hanging over the back of the axle....the bike is just sat on this platform above the axle and strapped down tight....

if you have made a trailer or can post a picture of yours to help me come up with the best design before i commit to killing my existing one, that'd be great.....

  16. well, it rained side ways all morning today at the trial (frodsham-mickerdale) made for some interesting riding but i think the water got in my kill switch..... every time i pressed it id get a belt.., not suprising with wet gloves on but i think it was also tracking onto my bars aswell...hahhaha

can anyone recomend a really decent water tight kill switch to replace my factory standard sherco one ?
