  1. Great little video from a new rider here in the Canadian Maritimes :). She was sharing a Beta 200 for the event. I was sharing my EM with the landowner and her Husband and son were sharing my Sherco 250 - Great day of fun at  new venue for us and great to have new riders out.

I thought her description was great !!!

Trials riding is no joke—and neither is trying it for the first time! I entered my very first trials competition as a total beginner and, well… I lost count of how many times I hit the ground. 😅 But honestly? It was one of the most fun and humbling moto experiences I’ve ever had. This video captures the real, unfiltered chaos—crashes, laughs, mini wins, and everything in between. If you’ve ever thought about trying trials or just want to see what happens when a rider jumps into the deep end, this one’s for you. 🏍️ Come along for the ride (and the falls). #FirstTrialsEvent #TrialsBeginner #MotorcycleFails #MotoJourney #FallAndGetBackUpSocial #RideLikeAGirl

If your using a clutch its a Race model not a sport, looks like your having fun good work.

The 2024 Sport has a clutch but cheaper wheels, suspension, console, and no phone app - but good enough for me

  3. Just bought a 2024 Sport model and really enjoying it. Certainly a big adjustment from my Sherco 250.

This was my very first try right out of the crate last week... I was fooling around with the clutch and winding it up for no reason.

This was this week (snow is gone) - a lot quieter you can hear the sound of the X11s on the driveway :)

  4. As stated before I don't often visit this forum. Luckily somebody asked me today who Lemur was on Trials Central ??? - honestly I am not sure but I do apologize to whoever you are. Honestly I did not remember you had stated here on trials central that you had decided that you would host the CMA National next year back in May. I do see that you had been asking that decisions about Nationals be made earlier in the year and that you typically only host them if nobody else wants to.

Please be aware that I do send weekly emails to all of the clubs that I am aware of and have contact information for and I also post those same emails each week to the Canadian Trials Initiative FB page (as noted in my post above on May 1st). I asked that clubs interested should let us know on June 12, Sept 4, Oct 29, Nov 5th and then I stated on Nov 14th that Jonathan, Christy and I had chatted at Nationals and since the ATAQ had been the only club that had shown an interest and since Christy was heading to the NATC meetings the following weekend we would go with the ATAQ so it could be discussed with the NATC with the hope for a FIM NA championship including one NATC event and the Canadian Nationals.

My guess is my note of Nov 14th is what sparked your post here and I am glad to answer questions. I will say nobody is trying to limit anybody's ability or interest in hosting events actually quite the opposite we are trying very hard to work with all of the clubs that are interested early on so that Nationals can be worked into the greater Trials community schedule earlier.

  5. Thought people may enjoy these 10 sections we set out at my place in Nova Scotia (Canada) :).

I feel they gave a good bit of variety we consider them to be intermediate level of difficulty with nothing much over knee high but lots of very tight turns and some very steep ups and downs.

  6. The Nationals will be November 8-9, 2024, at the Victoria Motorcycle Club property, in Victoria, BC

In addition, we are working with the NATC to combine the Canadian Nationals with the the Donner CA Nationals on July 27th/28th as the North American FIM Championship.

Would be great if the CMA could get the 2025 event sorted earlier - I believe Derek has offered to host it as well always great to have choices.

The "Canadian Trials Initiative" is a handy spot to keep up to date with things.

  7. Does that fall under the ATA ? or is it a separate entity (It doesn't seem to come up on google or facebook) ?

I am not sure if you follow the Canadian Trials Initiative on facebook but am happy to email you the weekly updates if you are interested. Neil gets them for the ATA.

    Cheers,

    Michael

It's been a while but glad I checked in here today.

I should probably start a new thread as the rule changes were not driven by the CMA. In Canada there is currently an Initiative to have all of the clubs work together to support all Trials riders and enthusiast. We are independently trying to do what we can to work with all 20 Trials clubs across the country, all Canadian importers, Moto Canada, CMA, and FIM. I applied for funding from the FIM to support this effort in 2021 and it was approved in 2022 it is scheduled to run out this year. I have posted weekly updates to the list of entities above as well as to the Canadian Trials Initiatives facebook page.

The rule changes are part of this effort and were shared with all of the clubs for input as part of the process. The main people involved in the effort were well known Canadian trials riders and enthusiast Jonathan English, Christy Williams Richards, Derek Thomas and a not so well known Michael Traves (that's me). The idea for the rules was to adapt the NATC rules for the most part, Christy and I sit on the NATC rule committee and the feeling was to work towards one standard set of rules for all of North America (and adopting the NATC rules was a good starting place as we help set them). We saw a number of benefits to this, as people travel to events outside their local club and as top riders ride at NATC events it would be helpful to have standard rules followed. I also believe it will help legitimize the sport (with government agencies) if we all followed the same rules. We are also looking to get the FIM NA Championship back up and running with one event from the NATC schedule and our Nationals counting towards the NA championship so having the same rules will also be helpful for that series. I sat in on a NATC/AMA meeting this week and there is a lot of interest from them and the FIM to make this series happen this year.

I will note that the new rules do go beyond just or Nationals and suggest that local clubs can adapt for things such as gate trials and self checking (I know lineway doesn't think that is a "real" trial). I did send an offer to all the clubs to provide new markers to help with the adoption of new colours but it seems most clubs are not ready to switch this year. We will also reviewing these rules every year.

I have probably opened a can of worms by posting - and my views can be seen on this thread from 7 years ago... I still feel the same today (as I did then) - we all need to be working together to grow our sport. I am happy to stand behind my actions because I truly felt (and still do) we have to put more effort into working together than complaining and knocking peoples efforts for doing so.

    Respectfully,

    Michael T.

  8. After doing a trials demo at the local motorcycle show on the weekend (here in Nova Scotia)  a fellow came up and asked if I remembered him from 2019... I did - he was the guy I always tell people about when they want to give my bike a try at the shows... He was kind enough to share this video his son had taken that fateful day...

  9. I have ridden an electric trials bike without a clutch and found that I really missed it.... It is fine to say just roll off the throttle but when you give it a bit too much throttle and are looping out, it is funny how much you miss that finger on the clutch :). I suppose you can adjust to anything over time (although it gets tougher as you get older) but for me a clutch would be mandatory to switch to electric.

  10. I really like my Sherco (2015 ST 250 (rear tank)) so maybe I am a bit jaded (I also live in Nova Scotia so it takes a lot less time to cover 100 miles :) ) and would consider that a reasonable drive for service. Personally I would take it back to the dealer and let him correct the issue. If the sherco's sit for a bit the clutch will stick but usually frees up after a little warm up. If there is a fuel line / carb issue it should be easily sorted. Trials bikes do tend to be a bit more fiddly than fuel injected street bikes but they are all pretty similar in that regard. I do agree it really sucks when you pay good money for something and are really looking forward to just riding it so would understand just sending it back (I just really enjoy mine so my vote is to give it a chance).
