  1. I've always believed it means Go Forward.

Haud can have different meanings - the main one is hold but is also used to say go.

    Forrit is forward.

I'll confirm with Dad who was part of the SSDT committee but others may be on to confirm one way or another.

  2. BTW, what do people class as a 'mometary stop', one stop, twice, bike bouncing off the same rock five times? It's a tough job but someone's got to do it......

Our club runs two National trials where the Non stop rules are used. When observers ask me 'what is classed as a stop' I always tell them that it's when the bike stops moving forward no matter for how long, but the most important thing is that you observe every rider the same.

I appreciate anyone who stands and observes and there's always going to be differences in interpretations of a ride. I think that generally riders get away with more than they loose but it's only the ones you loose that you remember.

Just a thought as i was reading the posts, having ridden trials in the past - I know how hard it is for all the observers to interpret when its a 5, apart from the cartwheel back down the big step! Perhaps Mark could borrow some previous SSDT vid footage from Andy et al of a cross mixture of riders and marks lost, having an presentation in the Ben Nevis Hotel for all official observers on the Sunday night before the trial for perhaps half hour to 1hr, talking through what his expectations are where marking is concerned from watching the footage. This could help clarify things for observers and be some way to making things more consistent.

  3. Take note Montesa/Scorpa etc!!!

This new Beta is what 4 strokes should be like - a well developed, designed and thought out engine..

NOT oversized mx/enduro derivated lumps of metal.... that yam lump in the scorpa looks HUGE compared to the tiny Beta..

Major kudos to Beta for taking their time (apparently 4 years) in developing the engine from stratch and not going down the route that others have taken.

However it still remains to be seen how it rides... can't wait to see how they fare in the SSDT....

P.S. Agree with you Andy - Beta's PR needs improving!!! However big up to TC for being the first....

This is the earliest fantic I can think of and find with both F&R disc brakes, it is a 1987 303 model. If it is not this bike, it may be possible that you have got an older model that had its brakes converted to disc by someone??

  5. Graham,

The best guy to ask is Bill Pye, he knows Fantic through and through - best place to get parts for Fantic bikes in the UK. If you live near the North East of England, the address is

    Frankfield Garage

    Great Ayton

    Middlesbrough

    North Yorks

    TS9 6BZ

Give him a call on 01642 722378 - he will help you out.

  6. Nae probs BA; be interesting to see what they have come up with... 2t or 4t??

I had the 95 and 96 Fantic Sections; was good but felt really fragile... much preferred the old Fantics of the 80s - was strong and sturdy and build 2 last!

  7. The Milan show is on at the end of November but the Paris show opened last week though - doesn't look like fantic showed anything there so guess we'll have to wait for a while yet..
