  1. Hi

Now i,am a bit old to be learning the metric system, but even I know that cc,s measure volume and millimetres measure length - Now if you mean millilitres??? They are the same as cc,s so 450cc is the same as 450mils. I stand to be corrected by anyone who was taught the NEW fangled way!!!

  2. Hi

The way i do it is- Get a punch or old screwdriver and hit the spacer over 1/4 inch then flip the wheel over and hit on the lip you,ve just made and out pops the bearings. There is a small lip/groove on both ends of the spacer - file off one of them when you re-install it - it makes it easier next time, but remember/ or mark which way you put the filed end.Cheers

  3. Hi, nothing too hard in doing these -Just follow the instructions on the Sherco USA website [ RYP] Make sure everything is nice and clean and use a vice to push the bearings out and to replace them -Job done.

  4. Hi

You do,nt say which part of the country your from so i cant give specific points. but if you can pick up Trials + motorcross news at your local papershop [out on fri] and look in the Whats on section in the back, and see if there are any trials on localy - pop along to a trial and speak to the organisers and they will point you in the right direction or look on the ACU website for the phone number for your nearest club. I wish i took up trials when i was severn!!!

  5. Get a 4RT, and you won't have same problem again. If engine doesn't cut out quick enough automagically, it'll cough and splutter as soon as your head gets near to being pulled round.

Don't get a Gasser, they'll never find neutral, or a Beta, it'll p*ss fuel all over you to add insult to injury.

    Anyone I haven't upset?

    Nice post -Made me chuckle

  6. Question to John Collins and Woody how about restricting the o40 and o50 classes to aircooled mono bikes,

2/3/4 thousand pounds cheaper than a modern bike, and at 25 years old must qualify as a classic by now !

pre75 and twinshock any age rider, o40 and o50 on aircooled mono's and back to four classes, and no need

for a modern bike to be considered when marking out a acu classic championship event! just a though

Sounds like a good idea to me. :D Gives a boost to the aircooled mono class, which is inherently a good idea and potentially good for the sport. Plus takes away one of the, IMHO, big negatives in the Classic rounds the modern bikes. Dabsters point about having to maintain and fettle the older bikes may or may not be valid, it is to him so fair enougn, but the TY250 is so reliable that it needs little maintenance, probably less than a modern bike, so thats that objection shot down. The big plus point is that a TY mono doesnt lead to radically different sections than those required for a twinshock or pre65. OK much easier to ride and massages your ego if thats your thing but all in all Paioli a damn good idea and better than some of the other suggestions and as such deserves serious consideration by the ACU and organisers.

If you have a modern bike and like riding it great. So why not go and ride it in a modern trial??????? It's not as if there is a shortage of modern trials is there? Or is it that the real reason is that the riders just want easier sections????

In my case i do ride a modern in modern trials -but my mates ride twinshocks,so either change bikes or mates?Set the sections to suit the intended classes/bikes and if there is a class for me -0/40 monos to ride in a classis trial i will, I thought a part of trials was the crack with your mates, but if the sight of a modern bike upsets some - trials has a sad future
  7. Hi all,

I just started trials this year, 79 Bultaco, and did a mixed, old and modern, trial this weekend.

It was a bit dis-heartening to see the young lads (i'm 56) leaping around up sand filled gullies

and mounting 2 ft steps after a vicious turn which i had no chance of doing (yet).

so much so some of the lads on pre 65 's went home at halftime

My point is let the beginner get the occasional clean it does wonders but a day full of 3's and 5's

    can set him back.

As i said in my earlier posts - set the sections for the bikes the trial is aimed at eg Classic - Twinshock - Modern, then if anyone rides say - a mono at a classic trial and finds it too easy,he wont be back p****** the classic boys off and vice-versa.Happy Trials

  8. in the end its down to the clubs to get the sections right for the classic bikes first and foremost !

i also ride the wye valley series , two routes ,10 classes,no problems, great trials maybe they should

be running a classic round, they seem to know what there doing and have a large classic following,

unlike some clubs that i suspect have a large modern bike membership, hence the leaning to more

modern bike friendly sections, and modern marking!

Totally agree !! Well set out trials and well run too,See you on the 24th

  9. Wanting to Please everyone thats total bull, add this route add that route before you know it we've got a total mess on our hand's.

If there's so many 0/40's and 0/50's on modern's looking for a championship trial why dont they create one instead of trying to hijack other trial's.

Nobodys asking for different routes for modern bikes at a classic event - I am riding in Wye valleys Classic rds on a mono [0/40] and a better set out trial i,ve yet to find.As Dabster says it might not be viable without the modern bikes?I like the classic style trials as i cant hop, skip or jump the bike about, so how am i creating a "mess".At the end of the day if someone takes the time to set out a trial, they want a good entry,Happy trials

  10. Here we go again -perhaps i,am missing something here but - is the argument,- if you let modern bikes enter a classic based series you must make the sections harder? RUBBISH -If the good/ V good modern bike rider finds the sections boring, then he wont be back so problem solved, and if the average rider who happens to ride modern enjoys the trial then the organisers can count on his money next time.I dont see why, if a mono goes clean why it effects the marking out of a classic based trial? Happy trials

  11. Hi i have a 05 290 and when i first pulled the airbox off and re fitted it, i had the same as you,but could get the screws in with a bit of playing around.I did,nt feel comfortable thinking i might strip the brass inserts,so i enlarged the two holes in the rear supporting bracket and now it fits like a glove. No doubt some might say you should,nt have to do this, but it makes life easier.

PS only undo the rear jubilee clamp[ nearest the airbox] leaving the rubberhose still conected to the carb and ligthtly oil the airbox outlet when refitting.

  12. There should be a hole in the rim tape for the valve to go through be it a valve on a tube or a tubeless valve. For all the cost of a rim tape I'd order one and a tubeless valve. The rim tapes can be a pain I've resorted to fitting mine ones with a good bead of silicon over the spoke ends just to ensure a seal. Dont worry about the mess once its dry it peels off easily if you later have to change a tape again.

I've tried the sealer ontop of the rim tape and despite high quality marine sealer and careful cleaning, my wheel still looses air from the spokes. The next thing I am going to try is; as Bigfoot says, rim tape off and sealer on the spokes first.

It only goes down 1psi a day so I can put up with it until the next tyre.

Put in some tyre sealant - Goop /Dr sludge - and forget about it,when you come to change tyres, scoop it out and put it in the new tyre -Job done
