I am thinking of selling my cota 247 and don't know what to ask. It has had a full engine rebuild with new bearings, piston and rebore. Also has had rear wheel rebuild and new tyres. New Amal carb. It is road registered and MOTD.
Looks a bit tatty but mechanically Excellant. What is it worth
I am putting a 1974 cota 247 back on the road. I am fitting an electric horn and it has a speedo and number plate. My question is do I need a chainguard to pass the MOT
Ive found that its the main bearings that are knackered so have ordered the bearings and gaskets to repair. A friend of mine who has had Montesas says you can change the mains without splitting the cases with heat and pulling them out. Has anyone tried this???
Thanks Dave that link would be great. Looked for the bearing from inmotion, they sell con rod and bearings complete on their website so have asked if they sell bearings separately.
Help please. Got my old 1973 cota 247 running and ticking over, but it sounds like a bag of nails. Took head and barrel off and there is some play on big and little ends so strip down and rebuild required.
Is there an information guide how to do this as I have no manual. Also can I still get the gaskets and bearings.?
I agree it looks like a pilot jet problem. I will buy some carb cleaner and a guitar string and have another go. I fitted a decompression lever a few weeks ago, how do I use it? Am I right in kicking it over a couple of times with the lever to prime it then give it a kick with full compression?
New to this group and need some help please. I've recently bought a 1970s montesa 247cota and having problems getting it running. I first had it firing occasionally, then the throttle got stuck and it fired and revved until I turned the fuel off. Now I can start it after squirting easy start into the inlet, it fires after second kick but will not run for more than a few seconds. I've tried opening the throttle, screwing the pilot jet screw in or out to no avail. It has an amal carb with push tickler thingy to get the fuel through.
What do people think, is it a blocked pilot jet or any other ideas please.
