  1. Want to build, or get hold of a sidecar to suit a late 1940's Triumph Tiger 100/ TR5 hybrid that i'm building, any pics or offers of chairs gratefully received
  2. its the Rookie version, think ive found the problem, now I found my specs lol! there was a small stick stuck at the back of the lever stopping upward travel. I'll take him up to the woods later to test its working right thanks for your help
  3. Just got the wee fella one for Christmas, didnt get it out of 2nd at the dealers, but when we went for a play yesterday it seems to only have 1 and 2, but not the easiest gearchange, seems very tight.
  4. I've fitted a PHBL 22mm Delorto to my cub with jetting to suit a 200cc Lambretta, converted it to a flipover choke, starts easy and ticks over sweetly and picks up really well, much better than when i put the new 22mm amal on.
  5. know what you mean about the depreciation on new bikes - very scary too late i've added it up 120 quid for the fork parts i'll be pushing 2 grand by the time i'm done, but dont tell er indoors
  6. Forks are Ceriani's which seem to be OK with some clubs. ground clearance is similar to my cub, so hopefully wont be too much of an issue
  7. over the last week or so the motor was pulled out stripped and checked, a 13 tooth gearbox sprocket fitted and then the motor rebuilt with new bearings and gaskets. Going out to try it today next step is probably a Rex Caunt ignition kit. new fork seals, stanchions, springs....... oh and alloy rims, new brake shoes....... what was it I said, "i'll get an old Cub for trialling it will be a lot cheaper than changing modern bike all the time"
  8. here is a B40 that we are putting together, when I say we, my mate Colin is doing the graft I'm dipping my pockets and searching ebay http://www.achnasheen.uk.com/htdocs/b40trials.htm
  9. I have been gathering bits and pieces for a rigid triumph project for a while now, I have a 49 ish Speed Twin frame and various pre unit motors some alloy barrell, a military TRW front end and Cub trials wheels, has anyone got any advice, pictures info that might be of assistance in the build up? I want to put together a sort of TR5 trials bike. here is what i have done so far
  10. i must admit I spent a bit of time on one particular section that i had taken a 5 trying it over again and with a bit of practice i could clean it ithout a stutter from the motor by feathering the clutch a bit and keeping the revs steady - I think i'll have to get out to the woods more
  11. Its difficult to know what the sections i will be riding are like cos I am completely new to competitive trials (on bikes). i went along to the IDMCC trial at Ardersier two weeks ago and we were trying to do an Intermediate course, tight nadgery, sectiolns in a pine forest, lots of steep sandy ascents and descents with tree roots (and trees) the boys on modern acrobatic bikes were hopping their way around the sections while i was taking loops to get a line, where i found i had problems most was if i throttled off at the top of a climb to keep the front end down, then came back on the throttle quickly to regain momentum the Cub would falter or stall, like wise if i came downhill, slowed to get the line for a sharp turn or climb, the motor would cut out or stutter, meaning a dab or a 5
  12. wouldnt have said you were no help, i am running a SM filter maybe i should try a k&N cone type, althout I think OTF and Big Johns comments about modifying my riding might be more realistic, I have been riding dodgy old Montesa twinshocks and Gas Gas's for too long! I dont know much about the internals of the Cubs engine it has points on side cases a square barrell and a round barrell head !!? it did have a 24mm concentric on ot, but beyond that i don't know its history, I bought it from a dealer in Bicester - bit of a blind date
  13. Having recently fitted a new 22mm Amal concentric carb to my cub, to try to cure low rev stalling in sections I am still having problems curing a flat spot which happens if i snap open the throttle from idle. i called Surrey Cycles for advice they suggested fitting a brass slide with a bigger cutaway which i fitted today. i took the Cub for a run on road to warm it up and then tried to trickle along at idle occasionally bliping the trottle to lighten the front flat spot is still there - again only if the throttle is snapped open, if the throttle is opened slower it revs cleanly all the way through the range. Do you think this may be an ignition problem, I am using a Boyer microdigital ignition kit and black box?
  14. Carb arrived yesterday, fitted it and the motor strted first kick, seemed ok apart from a flat spot/hesitancy just off tickover when you snap the throttle open. checked the timing, fine 2-3 hours of fiddling up a notch down a notch and its still the same, so I phoned Surrey Cycles explained the problem. They diagnosed that i need to change the slide up one size to a size 3, it arrived in the post today so I hope to fit it tonight. Spec as delivered 22mm carb no 2 slide 106 needle jet needle on centre groove Apart from the flat spot the motor seems tu pull much better through the range flat spot is most apparent when you crack the throttle open from idle.
  15. carb hasn't arrived yet, but i'll check the jets when it get here. I asked them to set it up for best tune for a trials cub motor. i was looking at the 35mm forks off my BSA B50 today, it is stripped for a full restoration, the yoke stem is the same diameter and thread as the Cub one, so i may try them while i rebuild the original ones, they are about 2" longer than the Cub forks and a lot better travel and action. i was planning fitting a Triumph T140 disc braked front to my B50 anyway. At least they are British
