  1. Here in the US of A, we have access to Boyesons and V-Force reeds. I have an 05 Rev3 270, which came with the V-force installed. Of course I pulled it out to see if it was really better and put the stocker back in. Result: to put it mildly...I hated the stocker! I then tried some Boesons I had lieiing arond, which produced a mild difference. The moral of the story is that the V-Force is the way to go...period! If you'd like a set...pm me. I don't know what shipping and exchange will be...but I'll try to help you out. Even better: try to get a group buy together!
  2. I do not notice the 1 point difference...but there is a huge difference with the winter blend we get in New England from Nov thru March. I run it in my Beta,a Yamaha YZ250F, a Honda CRF250 and an Aprilia 1000....the 4 strokes really run and sound different on the winter gas.
  3. It looks like your link to beta.id.au has gone belly up. They have parts download pdf. on the beta.com site now...and much cleaner versions.
  4. Who the heck reads the owners manual??? DOT stands for "department of transportation"....and the different numbers are for thier boiling points and a few other properties of brake fluids.5 is synthetic hi temp brake fluid. Mineral oil is...well, basically the baby oil your mom put on your bottom....and not approved by the DOT for use in brakes....I'm not sure about thier stance on baby's bottoms....probably some other dept here in the States. The main reasons mfgrs use it is: it's Cheap....really Cheap it's biodegradeable...so stoarge is simple,no problems working with it, and if it leaks...nothing gets harmed and maybe a few babies bottoms will get lubed. And if some dumb consumer consumes it...nothing will happen and the mfgr won't get sued. And did I mention it's Cheap...really cheap? It's bad points: It's cheap, really cheap. It doesn't handle heat well. It breaks down and contaminates easily. Although you can drink it, it tastes really bad (don't ask) As for it getting into your tranny...well, it's a small amount, it's slippery stuff.....and considering there's always a little dirt and water in there...it's the least of your worries. Ater all, you should be changing the tranny oil frequently anyway. And if you use atf in your clutch lever...and in your tranny, what's the difference? And if you want to play Mr.Science....warm up some ATF, squirt in a little brake fluid...and put in in the blender. It will mix in quite nicely...which is what will happen in your tranny. And if you read almost any can of motor oil, brake fluid or atf...there is usually a little marketing blurb about the products ability to swell seals... Ok...enough about hydro clutches. Who knows anything about little GAssers?????
  5. Swollen seals are not always a bad thing....it actually helps them,,,well,,,seal! Gas Gas has a service bulletin that recommends dot5....and I watched a mechanic pour some in before a worlds round......and I think all thier parent's credit ratings are good. Allan Randt from Enduro Engineering has been using atf in Ktm clutches for years...and he sets up all the factory guys here in the US of A. But still....folks on the message boards bicker on and on about the evils and perils of using it.
  6. So...you put in Synth fluid. Does it work? Did it leak out? Did it ruin your parents credit rating? ( I bet the answers are : yes, no and no) Hint: there are several reasons mfgrs use mineral oil. First, it's cheap...and it's biodegradable, which makes it easy to store at the plant. With Magura mtb brakes early on...they made a big deal about only using mineral oil...which would containminate quickly.I put in Motul 600...and was told by everyone it would be the end of civilization as we know it. My brakes still work fine 10 years later....and as for civilization, well, you be the judge.
  7. LOL...she weighs 125lbs....but it's her first bike. I didn't want to scare her...and it will teach her technique instead of using the motor. It's a full size bike with a little motor. Plus I got a deal on it.Fact is...at 185 lbs,I can clear just about anything on it that I can do on my 280, I just can't rely on the motor to pull me through if I screw up.I have been riding it more this week than my bike! And as far as the hydro clutch, I don't know why the myth of using synth fluid in it carries on. Everybody said the same for KTM/Magura hydro clutches and mtb disk brakes...but now everyone figured out it's a myth and uses fluid or oil....most use fork oil with zero problems.Have you had problems? Or are you just listening to the myth? And I know all the regular things to look for.....I just wondered if anyone had specific details to this bike.
  8. New to this forum and little bike set ups. Just picked up a 02 TXT70 for my girlfriend( and I've been riding it too...fun little bike). It runs good and looks like it has the carb set up done. Is there anything I should look out for or do the bike? Are there replacement reeds or mods that will give it a little more grunt?(yes, I know it's only a 70) And is there any parts break down diagrams for the motor? Thanks in advance! dl
