A QUESTION FOR THE PORT TALBOT PONTIFICATOR , ME THINKS !
***EDIT***
Moderators have been sent a request to delete this post - in my view, the damage has already been done as JC has seen and replied to the jibe and others have 'quoted' it in their posts.
Might as well let it stand now, I'm sure that a TC poll would support John's efforts on here...
It's who is riding the bikes that counts. If mid-results riders turn up on specials it isn't going to propel them to the top of the results and to the best of my knowledge, the front runners have no interest in building specials, it's not what they want.
I really, really hate to ask this but frount runners, no interest in riding/building specials, when did that appen !!!
I had a nice trial last weekend (aywaille cluban trial in belgium), the guy who won the inter class rode a "fantic 300" he used gasgas forks (+- 2004-2005) and his engine was something special to, the fins where a lot smaller then a normal 300 maybe from one of the monoshocks (301?) and tubeless rear wheel. Rules in Belgium are not that strickt aircooled engine twinshocks and drumbrakes so it was ok.
The guy who rode it was verry good but i'm not sure if he would have won on an standard bike ...
regards Bob
Was that the German guy with the section forks ,well we all know their up to something !
Good English entry ,well marked out sections, strange weather, and did you know their
no stop rules are, you can stop with one foot on the ground for as long as you like and
Brilliant weekend - if any of you lads/lasses involved in the organisation of the trials are on here they were both spot on. Nothing tight, all sections cleanable, although it would take very good rides on some to achieve that (and there were) but most others still tricky enough to take marks if a rider wasn't right on line.
So well done, thanks for the events, roll on next year.
Only thing I'd change in the Bootle event is more sections in the rock streams as we just don't get to ride enough of that stuff down here, but there they are all over the place, everywhere you look, just begging to be ridden. But you could always find just one, really snotty one full of mud, just for Nick.
And can we have some more downhill stream sections for rappers ,the forward dive without pike for five ,was a sight to behold ,
Just picjing up on the point about getting lost in sections with many different routes.
I have mentioned this before but perhaps now have a solution.
In the North East centre we tend to use red and blue for the middle route, pairs of white flags for the easy course and pairs of yellow for the hard course. I don t think this is very effective as you can interperet the intended route at least two ways on the hard or easy course by passing between pairs of flags that are not intended to be paired. To make this clear in a gulley its obvious which are left and right but start using the bankings and you can go in and out of the wrong pair or in the wrong order. The observer can clarify IF they know but they shouldnt have to, it should be clear to all.
My question is does ACU handbook specify you must use flags ? If not why dont we move to the system used in the world rounds where you pass through colured arrows for your course. Because of the arrows you always go through the right pair, we could go further by numbering the arrows. just a suggestion.
colured arrows ,if you have a blue sticker on your number you pass between the blue pairs, they use this system in classic
events in Belgium ,France & Germany , 4 / 5 routes, long sections , brilliant events , don't knock it, until you try it !
Apparently according to the chassis expert that built Trevor Kemps modern Majesty frame, irreparable damage can be caused through using this method to alter head angles, even if you just push the bike into something solid! This didnt seem quite right to me, but as they have also built frames for Valintino Rossi, his views might be worth thinking about?
We are talking trials bikes here ! you know the things you ride up rock steps ! irreparable damage my a%%
