  1. cman,

The Sony looks like a nice camera.

We are thinking about buying a Canon HF100. It uses a SDHC flash card instead of tape. The only thing that it lacks is an eye-level viewfinder. Since it's purpose will be mostly to record trials that might be a problem.

    Thanks

    DFW

That looks like a great camera. The eye level viewfinder should not be a problem. I have never used mine. The flash card cameras are more convienent. The lcd screen tilts all directions and makes it easy to get different shots. Some times I use a Canon XL-HI professional camera and you pretty much have to use it with it pressed to your eye. Its a great camera but more difficult to shoot with unless your a pro. I need to use it more because the quality is outstanding. Good luck.

  2. Hey Cman,

What camera are you using. Team WGASA needs some new filming equipment.

I am using a Sony HDR-HC7 mini DV. It has all the bells and whistles. HD 1080i. But I do not film in HD. I film in standard quality because it is faster to download and edit. HD uses tons of memory and for internet viewing it is not necessary. On YouTube you can click on watch in high quality and its pretty good. I do the videos to promote the sport in the US. I try to link them to all different sites so the sport can grow here. Also its fun to film. I just wish we were getting a world round in 09. I may have to go to a National to do a vid in 09.

  3. Another great bunch of clips! What cam are you using?

I seen Ray P. and Phil Smage both with their HD units running! :o

Sony HDR-HC7 Handicam. Not that you need HD for internet videos though. Ray is using a Canon XL-H1. I was to much of a wimp to carry that one around so he did instead. He got a lot of nice footage as well. I gave him my tapes over the weekend so he can put something together using what I shot with his footage.

  4. I've seen both vids and all I can say is......Great camera perspective and steady filming. Thanks for leaving out the music audio. Did you have a steady cam?

Only a rider can film with the eye!!!!!!

The day 2 clip was just something I put together using a $100.00 digital camera. Thats the only reason there is no music. Not to many people have found that clip on you tube. I am going to put together day 2 video this weekend and will post it on Monday. I have some great shots of section 4 from Sunday when only 2 riders made it thru the section. The only reason I put music in all my videos is because sitting at the computer editing for 4 hours with no music would drive me nuts.

I do have a stabilizer on my camera. If not it would be real shakey. Luckily I can edit out the parts where I am slipping on the rocks and the camera goes crazy.

I am off to ride today. After watching those world riders last weekend I can surely do a 5 inch splatter........

  5. Great Job There CMAN!

I think the guys checking on the lower part of that section where not very experienced and may have had a tough time making the calls. I've never seen such grooming in my life! Those minders (Fugi and Bou) are real landscape architects!

I think your movies keep getting better and better btw.

I agree. I saw some questionable calls as well. But I am glad its them making the decision not me. They needed shovels and rakes for all the grooming.

    Thanks.

  6. Good video they get better and better the top boys moving the 'Goalposts' further apart.

Just one point in the first part of the video (where Lampkin got an early 5) the marker on the face of the rock, should they have gone to go to the right? Lampkin I think tried to do this by flicking his rear wheel, wher others either rode over the marker and some to the left?

Now if thats not the case then bad judgement from DL not to take the straighter line, but if it was then it seems the others gpot away with it?

Hard to see from the video so someone closer to the action could tell us???

They were supposed to go to the left of the marker. It was real close on everyone. One rider went right over the top and the observer gave it to the rider when it looked like a five to me. Then after a few complaints they started to really check to see that they went to the left of it. There were a lot of tree roots on the rock. It seemed as the roots knocked him off of his line.

  7. Nice video and editing . Thanks for sharing it with us

Out of interest , what camera and editing suite did you use ?

I am using a HD Sony handicam HDR HC7 with a wide lense. I have some video of day 2 that I used a fish eye lense on so I had to be real close to the riders. That one I will post in the next day or 2. The editing software is Sony vegas platinum. Not very expensive and easy to use.

  8. Get the 4 Stroke. I rode a 2 stroke for about a year and changed to the 4 stroke (Scorpa of course). Now when I ride any 2 stroke I dont feel comfortable. I am biased of course because I have an 07 250F.
