  1. does it sound that way while riding? take it off the metal stand and see if t heres a difference. i didn't hear anything you might be hearing from that video. you do have oil in the gas ? properly ?

  2. first i'm shocked toni rode so well injured, i'm happy for caby in his 20th season to still be so strong. i can't believe adam didn't win. the video i've seen so far the sections looked fairly easy but the scores might have reflected tough scoring vs tough sections?

  4. hi

A - how old are you?

B - how fit are you?

C- if over the age of oh lets say about 20 and not world class fit. then you might need to view any attempt at an obstacle with the first thought of "if i fail at this obstacle will i be able to go to work on monday to support my family"

it's not fear it's wisdom. wisdom that comes from years of failing so many times that you now know better. the great thing about trials is you progress at your rate and try bigger when you feel it. i personally tried any and everything to the point of hurting myself and now that i'm older i know what to really not do or try.

most crashes in trials won't really be so bad but top level stuff will. but by the time you get to that level you won't be on this forum asking us for advice anymore..lol

  5. can't tell you how but it's never the bikes fault. it's about body position and riding technique. watch others on the day and try to do what the guys that make it do. on muddy climbs i try and dig my heels in, meaning i try and get my heels lower than the foot pegs and press / pull hard on the bars and push through my feet. i'm not good at explaining how to's

  6. tell you what when you old goats go back to corresponding by chiseling your responses on granite slabs i'll go back to cable controls. not......... you can't unlearn technology and progress. sorry i just don't believe the good old days were so wonderful that we need to go back.

i'm 53 and would not want any bike i had back in my youth other than to sell it for a lot more money than i paid for it to someone who wants to relive their past. those bikes were not that great in my eyes compared to what we ride today. just my opinion.

also regards to the old days of no stop trials, when i watch almost all of the lower class riders up to about advanced level the vast majority ride the sections without stopping. from advanced all the way to the WTC it's the opposite.

  7. I am surprised at the number of posts advising limited tire changes.

The tires are the only things touching the ground and giving you grip and feel, I would suggest anyone riding competitively will change a rear tire every 10 to 15 trials, so that's only about £7 per trial.

Anyone suggesting you can ride on a rear for longer than a couple of months is not riding trials, if you doubt this fact try a bike with a new tire it's not the new bike that feels so good it's the new tire !

This does of course depend where you ride, I ride 95% mud, cambers and roots so as soon as the edge has gone the tire gets turned or changed.

a few years back i had a 06 beta i rode that bike for 7 years never changed the tires i competed regularly, about 10 events per year plus a weekly practice. i won the regional sportsman class one year on that bike and the tires were about 3 to 4 years old. i've never taken a point  because i had a bad tire only bad riding technique. yes tires are cheap but i'm not a pro and i'm not riding on anything nearly as demanding as upper class riders. i sold that bike with the original tires still mounted.
