  1. ok, try this. imagine there is a turn right after the rock, like 2 feet after the rock and you need to turn immediately, how slow would you go then? thats how slow you need to go. your gassing it and going faster not up. none, zero compression before or during your actions of going over. when you lift on a small rock like that the front wheel should almost stop on top the rock, thats the first blip to get the wheel up. no gas the bike should compress, then the 2nd blip and unload the suspension and the bike goes up and the back wheel goes onto the top of the rock.

    also instead of riding around the rock and parking lot make a real attempt of it by going slow and only being a few feet from the rock to start and a few feet away once over the rock. then it will help with how much speed your going at it.

  2. i've never bought a bike based on engine, other than it has to be a 2 stroke. for me the way a bike rides and feels. also the brakes and how nimble it feels. also i don't like lower displacement motors. in 24 years of trials riding i've only needed to open up a motor to work on / change parts once. when riding a 93 gg i changed a couple of water pump seals, on my 2013 sherco it came from the factory with a messed up water pump seal, once replaced not a moments trouble.

  3. welcome, trials is a great sport. i maybe different than most folks around here, if enduro is your sport and money is an issue, then, are you really looking to get into another sport? are you looking to compete in trials? if you want to be a better enduro rider then i recommend investing your time and limited money on riding your enduro bike. watch youtube vids and go out and practice on your enduro bike. don't get me wrong trials is a great sport and i wish i would have done trials before mx. and lots of folks will tell you how great a teacher trials is and i agree. the "but" is for weekend warriors the limited time and financial budget means i only get to choose one sport. so with that i will say this almost all trials bikes are reliable and dependable. i've ridden all brands and owned almost all brands. there are not much difference in anyone of them. most of the problems come from what you break when you fall. fenders, levers. most of the time it's lack of maintenance, i've owned used ones, new ones are my favorite because you know what you are getting. but they are just like mx / enduro bikes with regards to what to look for in a used one. so ride some and pick one that feels comfy to you.

    the beta and the monty might be better for a larger guy as they hold up pretty well to abuse. i'm pretty sure beefier springs are available for most bikes if needed.

  4. ok, so this turned into a english lesson? this maybe what's wrong with trials popularity? i've been around the mx world for 35 years which should be obvious by my improper grammar. the new younger crowd speaks a language i don't even understand. maybe trials has to many high brow, proper language and hey i can count to ten without my fingers wine and cheese eaters, although i'm pretty sure cope prefers beer?

    please read this as my attempt at a joke / sarcasm

  5. stpauls, you are one lucky guy, if i ride all the events within an 8 hour drive, i could only do 12 a year. and that's 2 per weekend. i would love to be able to compete more. there just aren't that many event's in the southeast US, and i don't think in the whole US really.

    section layout is a tough chore, i've been a part of laying out events. people complain all the time, too easy to hard. i don't have any answers.

  6. pretty much my whole practice area is either railroad ties or cut off pilings. you don't need big steps just big enough above your current comfort level for now. but make sections that come close to a real trials section. multi step, steps on an angle.

    wish i had some land to do this, we loose more riding area every year

    almost down to nothing now.
