  1. Hi, The front brake on my Evo 290 has gone very 'severe'. The lever is adjusted fine..there is a small amount of slack then the next micro-meter of movement brings the front brake to instant full lock. This is not how it has been up to now as it had a nice progressive feel. Any suggestions what may have happened and how to fix it? Thanks.
  2. Sorted....after I refitted the second seal and did 3 oil changes it finally runs clear. Thanks for the advice.
  3. Yes...the open side (retaining spring) is facing the pump side. I have now replaced the seal again in case the first was damaged. After a couple more oil changes the oil still turns immediately 'white' on running the engine?
  4. Hi, I have just replaced the inner clutch casing on an '05 125 due to coolant corrosion. I also fitted new bearings and oil seal to the impeller shaft. After flushing and plenty of oil changes I am still getting coolant into the oil and suspect I may not have fitted the oil seal correctly (or is there another cause?) Are there any tips or special tools required to fit this correctly Thanks, Jon.
  5. Help please? My son returned from practice today with a dead Beta Rev3 125 '05 He says as he was going up hill, it started revving fully without any throttle and died. He kicked it over and it revved fully again with no throttle so he killed it. After that it won't start (There was no water involved!) There is a good spark and I have changed the plug just in case. Fuel is also getting to the carb. I have taken the carb off and given it a check over (although I don't really know what to look for) and it all seems to be OK? There is good compression when kicking it over but no life! Does anyone have any ideas on what to check from here and what may be the problem? P.S. If you were the guy at Rough Holden who gave him assistance...many thanks. Jon.
  6. Thanks everyone for the tips. Just letting you know I managed to borrow a compressor/impact wrench and it worked. For your info Lampkins told me 140NM for the torque. The wrench I used has no calibration so I went for the maximum and so far everything is fine apart from myself getting out of practise after the bike was out of action for months. I might get a get a flywheel 'holding' tool made so that I can do it properly if I ever need to do it again. I had to get one made to get the flywheel off in the first place. Jon.
  7. Thanks for the advice guys! I will give it a go. One more thing... What's the best way to lock the crank whilst doing up the nut? The best method I found was to put it in gear and lock the back wheel (bar through sprocket/swingarm). As I tightened the nut the rear shock compressed until it felt like it would explode! There must be an easier way?
  8. I have replaced the stator which had gone ('04 Rev3 250) and put everything back together. Bike ran great for about 2 min then died. On investigation the flywheel had come loose and has sheared off the locating key on the crank. I am not sure how this has happened as I tightened it fully (it was lifting the bike of the ground). Anyway...after speaking to Lampkins it appears that I have sheared of the top of the woodruff key, so have ordered a replacement. Does anyone have any advice/tips on how to remove the remaining part of the key (still in the crankshaft) and fit the new one? Also any advice on how the flywheel came loose, I am convinced it could not have been tightened any further...is there a trick I am missing? I don't want to rebuild the whole thing and then have the same happen again! Any advice gratefully received. Thanks, Jon.
  9. I have replaced the front brake and clutch master cylinders on my Beta Rev 3 which required draining the fluid. After re-assembly and re-filling the brake bled through fine (eventually) but I can't get the clutch sorted. I am using the traditional pipe/bottle method and seems to work at first with plenty of air bubbles coming through. After a short time I have clear fuid with no further air bubbles, but after locking off there is no pressure on the lever and no clutch. I am pretty inexperienced at this (I have bled bikes before but not when they have been totally drained) and would welcome any advice. Am I doing something wrong or is there a trick with this bike that I need to learn? Thanks.
  10. This is bad news. My son and I have taken up trials from the end of last year and prior to this I looked into possible venues and went to Addingham a couple of times and spoke to riders about it. Confident we had somewhere to go we got kitted up and have been there most weekends since. It is an excellent area with something to satisfy us beginners through to the experts who we can watch and admire. We have joined the Yeadon & Guiseley Club and will take part in their beginners events (first one last week - that's a different story) but for a long time to come we will mostly need to practice and Addingham was our venue. The farmer seems a nice guy in that old yorkshire farmer way, and even towed me out of the mud when my car got stuck in the parking area. Does anyone know if this ban is already in force or can we continue to practice until we are notified somehow (I suppose a sign will be put up or the gate locked?). Can anyone recommend other venues in the area that we can use instead? Is there anything we can do to help/change the situation. eg. Writing to council/mp etc.
