    Gear box

Cota 348. After rebuildinbg the engine the gears do not shift smoothly, so the engine is in pieces again. I want to set the end play on the drive, input shafts and the shifter shaft. Can anyone tell me what the end play tollerance is and if anyone has any advice then please share.
  2. Does anyone have some instructions on how to set uo the gearbox?
  3. I adjusted the shifter drum but still have a problem shifting the gears. There are false nuetrals and the gears sometimes grind, also the gears lock and it takes a few trys to get the gears unlocked and shifting again. Any ideas what the problem is?
  4. Today I drove the bike for the first time after rebuilding the engine, unfortunately there is a problem shifting the gears. There are a lot of false nuetral between the gears, is there is some way to adjust the shifter mechanism to get a smooth gear shift.... or have i made a mistake when reassembling the motor?
  5. I got the engine back in the bike and it stated and runs nice. The bike has the Malcolm Rathmell tank can anyone tell me what the motor cc?
  6. Ok thanks, So its ok....The reason for the question is that it did not click before and now it does. Thanks for helping out
  7. I put the case together this afternoon everything seems to be ok except for the kickstart mechanism. When the kickstart shaft is rotated (to simulaye a start) the the gearshaft turns (as expected) but there is a clicking noise when the kickshaft is rotated back to its home position. Does anyone know the reason for this?
  8. Thanks for the reply. I an putting the engine together and can anyone tell me: 1) How should the gear at the end of the kickstart shaft should be orientated when the kick is at the stop on the case (see picture). 2) The gear runs under a 3 pronged bolt (not sure what u call it) how tight should this bolt be, should the gear be able to 360 degrees under the prongs? Thanks in advance
  9. I cannot get the bearing racer out of the case even with a puller, the race is conical so the puller just wont grip, if anyone has some advice I wil be glad to hear it. I was looking at the through bolts that hold the case halves together, some of the nuts look like they are in bad shape, but they are not standard M8, does anyone know what size the thread is? Also what is the torque for the through bolts? Thanks in advance
  10. I have seen a used engine for sale, can anyone help me identify it, the engine number is 51M7529.
  11. I think the gears are ok its just a bad lighting on the picture I have removed all rhe bearings except for 1 which is in the case and its blind bearing, the bearing race is stuck in the case see picture. Can anyone tell me how to remove the race from the case?
  12. Thanks for the advice I heated up the case and it came apart. It looks like the crack in the case was not the cause of the oil leak, The oil was coming from the seal on the kick start, also the main bearing was rough so I think I will replace both main bearings and all the seals, This means I will have to remove the gearbox, I am unsure how to do this, is there some way to remove the whole assembly in one piece so it can be replaced as a unit when its time to put the case halves together? Thanks in advance
  13. I have started to dismantle the engine in order to split the case, the case does not seem to want to come apart, is there something more that I need to loosen or do I need to hit it harder?
  14. Thank to everyone for the advice. I removed the engine from the bike and removed the outer casings. It looks like the crack has been welded before but the weld has failed. How do I remove the right hand case half, do I need to remove the clutch etc....and what about the gearbox?
